I have no idea what they were threaded for, you and I paid for them, but evidently uncle sam doesn't remember what they were for either, so he's getting rid of them.

No. These are file handles, and the part number confirms they were from a file set. The threaded handle screws itself onto the file tang. They're actually pretty awesome handles.

The auction's part number is SGHF616B.
An HF-616 is a normal hard file handle (I've got one of these, and the OEM for the threaded insert appears to be Pferd).

The G means it was a government purchase with no warranty (not that these are known to fail).
I'm not sure if the S or the B make it the Instinct style.

I see an SGHF617A on eBay that has a soft handle.

Regardless of what color they are , the instinct Handle with the black is the soft grip version , the hard version is grey
