Entry door lights

Just picked up 2 wireless door activated fixtures with those fancy $10 bulbs all the cool kids have; 1600 lumens!!! This way the kids don't have to turn on (& leave on) the main lights to get to the cars. Will try to "install" tonight.
Last week, I did install a proximity light swith to the mud room & the wife couldn't be happier.

Works great, every time the kids open the door, 2 lights turn on. Since 1 sensor actives both lights, I'll put the second one on the garage door itsslf.

I need help with something else now...
These wireless door activated lights I've put up stay on for too long; 30 minutes & are not adjustable. I only need them on for a couple of minutes. Any ideas???
I have 2, each one with a 1600 lumen bulb plug in.

Other than taking them back and buying something different, there isn't much you can do to those if they don't have some type of internal timer function.

Why not put a simple motion sensor light fixture in the garage? They only come on when it's dark, and you can set the amount of time the light stays on after motion is no longer detected from 1 minute up to 4 hours or more, depending on the light fixture you buy.

I had the screw in motion sensors you put into a simple light fixture in my garage for the same reason you wanted, but none of them ever lasted more than about two years. And they were expensive.

So I bought a cheap $12.00 motion sensor light fixture at Home Depot, removed the motion sensor part, and wired that up to a single bulb light fixture in the garage. I set the timer to shut the light off after 1 minute of no motion, and it works great.

Here is the one I bought and removed the motion sensor from. Where it is mounted in my garage it can see both "people" doors, so no matter which door you come in, it will turn on the light so you can see.

I tried 2 different motions in 2 differently locations, neither one worked out due to the location of the door vs power supply, and I didn't want to run electric. These things really work great, especially with 1600 lumen bulbs installed. They just stay on too long, 30 minutes. I actually got a 3rd one today for the 3rd garage bay.

You'd have to put in your own timing relay with timer-off delay activated by the sensor. The main problem is the timing relays, adjustable, are usually north of $25 ea.

I picked up a $12 "Mr. Beams" battery powered LED motion sensor light that I placed above my rarely used garage man door. Hung it with a couple of magnets on the steel siding. Code says I need a light over the door. Works better than anticipated, even though only about 80 or 90 lumens. You can get much more powerful one that would suit your needs.

I actually have the same Mr.Beams light in my basement. I have it attached to the ceiling a few feet in front of the Bilco door that leads to the outside. I wanted a motion sensor light there so that when I come into the basement from outside, and the regular basement lights are not on, the motion sensor light would come on and I could see where I was going.

There are higher lumen versions of the Mr. Beams lights as jives said, which my local HD did not have. I probably would have bought a higher lumen version if they had it, but the one I have works good enough to see. I would also recommend them, as the one I have works great, only comes on when there is no other light in the basement, and it can sense motion from really far away.

These are ****; I've been fighting with them since I got them. They get out of sync, so sometimes they'll stay on until the door opens, then they'll go off. There is no on/off signal, just 1 signal sent, not 2. Highly Unrecommend this set up.

They stay on for ~30 seconds after motion has stopped.
