Entry into an exterior box

I am installing a mini split.
Question about getting wires into the disconnect box on the exterior.
The garage has a subpanel inside, between the studs. It sits ~1/4” off the plywood sheathing. There is wood siding exterior to that.

What is the preferred method for getting wires from the subpanel to the disconnect? If I open knockouts in the back of each, I’m not sure what (if any) fitting is available to put in the knockout; the exterior box will be flush with the siding. There is not much space between the two, just the 1/4” plus the sheathing/siding thickness. Is it preferred to exit through conduit and then use 90 deg fittings?

So the panel and disconnect will be back to back. Just use a 1/2 inch heavywall ****** with lock nuts on both ends. They come in different lengths. Maybe a 1 1/2 or 2 inch long one. Just measure to see how long of one you need. This is exactly how I did mine

Different areas have different code, this is based on CEC/OEC and IMO.

To make life easy I would run NMSC and enter from the rear of the exterior box using the correct NMSC clamp in the knockout. Make the hole in the siding for the wire large enough to clear the clamp, caulk around the exterior box.... Instead of mounting the exterior box behind the panel I would offset it enough to come out of the side of the panel with NMSC and then into the rear of exterior box.

Running conduit etc. seems like a lot more work to me.

Others can comment on NEC if this is allowed....

Seems like a lot more work and less cleaner looking than just nippling out the back
