New to the forum and looking for recommendations for epoxy for a 3 car garage. Budget is around $1k or less. Mainly doing light automotive work. Previously I have used the rustoleum product with great results, but wanted something more durable for this garage.

This will be a new garage floor that was poured approximately 5 months ago. I was mainly looking at the Legacy kits and am having a hard time choosing between all their products.

Also, any coupon codes or discounts would be nice if someone has one :)

I hope this is the right place to ask a question regarding new concrete. I also have a new floor, actually one day old. How long should one wait to seal or epoxy a floor? I got my heart set on moving in, and getting to work on my vehicles, but i still have my existing attached garage. I would consider waiting a month to ensure success. Also with winter around the corner here in Michigan, I won’t be using the new garage much until spring anyways.

General rule of thumb minimum is a month but can be MUCH longer depending on pour, weather, local temps, ventilation, etc.

Test first using calcium chloride test kits or the plastic sheet method referenced on GJ thousands of times.

Contact us directly at below for additional guidance or assistance.

I used epoxy coat, it's been down 7 1/2 years and it still looks good.
The concrete was poured in the fall and the epoxy was put down the following June, it has not lifted anywhere.
I did not grind the floor only acid washed and power washed it clean.
I have about 10-12" sand base below the pour with no vapor barrier.

I also used epoxy coat. Been down 6 years and looks great. The only thing I would do differently would be to NOT use an epoxy clear as mine has yellowed from the UV rays about 1/2 into the garage from the door.

Please note that topcoat may not stop epoxy yellowing completely. While it will help to reduce it, even with a UV inhibitor in it, the floor can still yellow if exposed to a lot of sun.

If sun exposure is a worry then consider using a Polyurea like our SPGX since they don't yellow.

That’s what I would do differently is use a polyurea coating

I am also looking into all the options. My question is.. is there really that much difference between products.. is it basically just finding the lowest price.. or are there real difference..and if there are real differences what are they (or how can you tell which product is better). After watching a bunch of youtube videos I am leaning toward renting a grinder and then doing a primer. That seems to be the best way to insure an even color and surface in my situation (1939 concrete floor that has all kinds of stains)... over the acid etching approach. I would love to hear how it goes with your project and which product and methods you used.

A good friend of mine strongly recommended the Armorpoxy coating. I, too, am having a 20 x 40 shop erected in back of my house. Brand new concrete so I figured it's now or never to coat the way I always wanted to. I etched it using 4:1 muriatic acid to water ratio to etch it. Now I just need the building to show up before the falling leaves from staining it! Any additional advice on how to do this right would be appreciated.

I just put down All Weather Floors Water Based Epoxy coating. My house was built in 1980, I ground the floors with a rental floor buffer and diamabrush, and it turned out amazing. It was easy to install and had very little odor if any at all. Less odor than the paint that I put on the walls.

The kit was ordered from Justin at Garage Flooring LLC

My votes are Legacy Industrial and ArmorPoxy. I've used both vendors. If you search, you might be able to find a discount code for at least one of them.

A 3-car is about 600 sqft. You're within budget.

Just to throw a monkey wrench in what you want to do - have you considered PolyUrea ? You can get it in solid colors, if that's what you want to do. Its easier, creates a very hard finish that - according to what I've read about (and spilled on it) is just as resistant as epoxy. It's easier to apply and costs substantially less. Both vendors mentioned above carry it.

Be wary of any company that doesn’t even use their own .com for an email contact or post their full address. Many alleged epoxy companies are home based resellers.
