So everyone is saying to prime to help alleviate problems with bubbling.... Which type/brand of primer is the best/economical?

I tend to lean toward a water based epoxy primer. Less susceptible to vapor emission problems. There's a lot of diy products available. Go with the manufactures suggestions. While you're at it, why not go with a vapor barrier epoxy as a primer. Add some additional vapor emission resistance.

There are a lot of Garage Journal members who are very pleased with "BondTite 1101" 100% solids epoxy. Although we do not sell it as a moisture sealing coating, we have a lot of feedback that it does a great job with low levels o hydrostatic pressure.

If you have to do the sanding step I think you would be better off with a sanding screen and a floor machine. Something like a 80 or 120 grit will surely rough up the surface with out removing too much material and hopefully keep your chips intact. Then clean as directed and re-apply clear (with chips if they got removed) and then perhaps another clear.

I did my floor once myself and it trned out well. That was on bare concrete and now that grinding in necessary, I hired someone. I scheduled it for August 3 and 4th so I could be home. I will photo dicument and post result photos.

Good luck fixing the floor.

I used Legacy's two part epoxy primer. I looked at others too but got a great deal on this because I bought it from another GJ member who had it extra from his project. Regardless, it worked great. Nearly as important it was great practice for the money coat. It has a longer pot life but the mixing and application process is similar. In retrospect I don't think my floor would have come out so good had I not used the primer.
