I just ordered a kit. I'm already second guessing my decision. The floor is a year old and stain free. I'm planning to diamond grind and paint during spring break.

Please share your experiences with this product. I want the good, bad, and ugly!!!!

About my garage is more man cave than work space. The kids bikes frequent it, I work out in here with Dumbbells and a TRX system. I'll be changing oil on the lawn mower and snowblower, performing brake jobs and other minor repairs. And lest we forget regular maintenance on my bicycles.

I ordered a 500sft kit w clear, extra traction aid and 5 lbs 1/5" flakes.

At the moment it really looks like dog poop!

I second what Scotty said. Add primer. Good people, Good Product, go for it.

Right behind race deck reviews of epoxy coat must be the second or third most discussed tropic in the flooring forum. Plenty to read if you spend a little time. And the same goes for the primer issue

Are your TRX straps connected to the roof beams?

I ordered Epoxy Coat and buyers remorse set in almost immediately. Received the kit and let's just say I'm not overly impressed. Not all to sure what I expected. The ladies I spoke w over the phone assured me that diamond grinding isn't necessary. Yet the website makes net ion of having to do so.

I finally found a contractor willing to do a small garage, 16x24. He gave me a decent price. And I've already seen several of his jobs. Now we're going w an acid stain, epoxy, and polyurethane finish. Not too happy about the money wasted on epoxy coat. Live and learn!

I have a 500sq ft kit for sale in NJ if anyone is interested. $400 new in sealed container. Grey paint w blue speckle and clear top coat. Retail cost $499. My loss is your gain.

About those TRX straps. They are attached to the ceiling joists. I weigh 265 so I went a little heavy duty. Had a welder cut 6"x20" 3/8 plate and weld a big D ring to it. Punched 4 holes in the corners and lag bolted it to the ceiling.

For what its worth, I used Epoxy Coat purchased from Lowes and I'm very happy with the result. My garage is new construction and I coated the floor shortly after moving into the new house. A couple of small oily stains left from the builders' equipment in the garage. I degreased and acid etched the floor. Scraped away any paint and surface contaminants beforehand as well. The measuring stick system in the kit worked fine for my purposes and I ended up using all of the provided chemicals in the kit (400 sq ft garage). Squeegee in the kit is a joke, so don't bother with it. I bought a 36" squeegee with a long handle and used a broom handle for the paint roller. Get extra roller covers. Also bought spiked garden shoes from Northern Tool for around $10. These worked great, but are a throwaway item after you're done with them. Application was not difficult, but you definitely want a helper to speed up the process. The provided grip additive in the kit worked great and provides a fairly grippy surface without being obtrusive. I did not end up using all of the provided flakes or grip additive...its a season to taste sort of thing. No clear coat on my floor either. After a year, the floor has stood up fine to brake fluid, oil, coolant, gasoline and a engine hoist being dragged around on it during an engine swap. There are some scratches, but the epoxy is holding on to the concrete perfectly fine. I see you've decided on an alternative system already, but for anyone looking for a personal experience with Epoxy Coat, maybe mine will be useful.

Forest Road,
I'm sorry that you had such a negative experience with our product. Our website mentions that diamond grinding is the preferred preparation method, but it is not necessary if you have concrete that is in good condition and you do not currently have a sealer. We have had many customers use the acid etching solution that is provided in the kit, and they have had great success with a lifelong bond.
I wish you great success with the floor coating that you chose.

Thank you for chiming in. I do understand that you offer an excellent warranty. And I've found several users who've had wonderful results. My primary issue with your product is that your sales dept advise using your cleaner and etching materials. Your website and video also mention that diamond grinding may be necessary in some cases. The majority of epoxy based coating recommend diamond grinding for best possible adhesion.

Lifetime warranties are wonderful. Unless your the guy who'll be scraping the epoxy off the floor. I take full responsibility for not doing more research before placing an order. But your 30% restocking fee is ridiculous.

To the OP, is does your floor have a concrete sealer on it? If not then what makes you think you need to grind first? Many threads here from people who had great success without grinding.

I've got a new floor that I'm planning to epoxy soon. I purposely did not apply cure/sealer after finishing the floor and went with a water cure instead so that I wouldn't have to grind before epoxy. Do you know something I don't?

Grinding the floor before applying a thin film epoxy system is one of the best surface preparation methods to assure adhesion of the coating to concrete. It offers a much more aggressive profile than acid washing, and there are no foreign chemicals to deal with. It also removes laitance, curing compounds, hardeners, sealers and other contaminants and offers a clean, properly profiled surface.

Sure some manufacturers say "Go ahead, acid wash, you'll be fine". And while in same cases that may be true, for a while. In the end you're better off doing proper surface prep.

No sealer. And it's relatively clean. I didn't care for Epoxy Coats Epoxy Coat conflicting statements. Lifetime warranties are wonderful if someone is going to come out and properly clean and coat my floor.
