Void,

Slap some truck mudflaps under your jackstands.

Thank you for the suggestion. That should work.

I wonder if there is a type of really durable rubber paint that I could apply to the jackstands....

Cool! Definitely post some before and after pics for everyone!

Void,
Very nice job!
I'll be ready to do my floor soon and was thinking on using the EpoxyCoat brand...From what I read on your posts, this stuff comes "clear" and you add the color at time of mixing??
What I'm getting at is this: can this stuff be used as a clear-coat (without color) for the final coat, or as extra protection over the color coats? Seems like it would work...
I'm thinking of laying down some graphics on the floor, and would want a clear coat, kind of what U-Coat-It has, for the final coat. If the EpoxyCoat can be used the same way, I'd go with that. Again, nice job!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the kudos.

The pigment settled to the bottom of the can (although it looked light gray when I started applying it) and that brought about the result you see on the first coat.

It sounds like what you want for protection over your graphics is a great idea. I am not sure it will bond properly to the graphics (depending on the material) but I'm pretty sure Epoxy-Coat sells their product without pigment, you may just want to call and ask for it.

After you call, post back and let us know what they said.

Thanks!

As a follow-up, I had a very small 6-inch area with, "fish-eyes."

Unfortunately, the two coats of epoxy just wouldn't stick. Amazing, after all that grinding, but I suppose it would have been much worse without it.

After speaking with a very pleasant Epoxy-Coat representative, I ordered a 'repair/patch kit' for $63. It seemed a little expensive, but it covers 75-100 sq/ft, so I guess it will be a selling point when I decide to move =0)

Completing the repair should be a matter of sanding the area just enough to remove the gloss, mixing a small portion of product, coating with an applicator, and re-adding the flakes.

I may pour some straight muratic acid on the section to be sure it's really etched or find some other creative way to make it stick if the sanding doesn't work.

I will post picks once the repair is complete.

For those of you that are just starting this project, I would highly recommend that you store a little extra portion of the epoxy, activator, and flake in separate containers for future repairs.

FYI - The grey pigment being used was just changed at the factory about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure about the other colors, but those of you that have already used this product and are thinking about a 'repair kit' may want to give them call...

1st Update:

It's been two weeks and the repair kit never came. I checked my credit card and I was never billed, so I'm going to call Epoxy-Coat on Monday to find out what happened.

On a side note, I wrote a letter to Epoxy-Coat letting them know about this forum and to check out all the related posts.

2nd Update:

After calling Epoxy-Coat, they found the error and I received the patch kit within a few days.

I'm working on installing some cabinets, so I haven't had a chance to patch the floor. It will probably have to wait until I'm finished with the shelving.

Overall, the surface seems to be holding up fine against chemicals and impacts.

Here is a pic of the cabinets:
