I have been reading most of the post about different floors and was ready to go with Epoxy-Coat and went to their site and noticed that have an option for a clear coat and I don't think they have always had this option. Can anyone comment on the difference and how the clear coat holds up and the looks compared to the none clear coat. The clear coat option is about 50% more.

Thanks

If you call them, they actually have two different ones available. They have the one you see and a polyurea for areas with sun exposure. They don't really promote the clear coat that much and even with flakes they didn''t push it for me. I am choosing to use a clear based on the advice of many others but I don't think it is required.

We recommend using a clear coat, especially if you are using the decorative flakes. For one thing, it makes the floor look better. The flakes are not as shiny as the epoxy, but once you put a glaze coat over it, everything has an equal sheen. Plus, it really makes the color of the flakes pop (especially the black flakes).

Also, it's easier to clean the floor when you have a glaze coat because dirt can't get caught in and around the flakes.

We have two versions also. I prefer the Industrial Glaze Coat myself.

Clear definitely makes a difference over flakes as SUPERCOAT mentioned. The following photos were taken before/after my Epoxy-Coat clear coat. Disclaimer: the after photo was a taken a bit earlier in the afternoon so more sunshine is coming through. But I noticed a definite improvement with the clear.

Another angle "before." In this set, look at the patchy areas in the distance.

"after" the patchy areas blend in

I recently did my floor with Epoxy-Coat brand and did color with flakes and next day clear over it all. Clear is the bomb!! I'm sorry I didn't do two coats of clear. I put silver glitter flakes also in an attempt to please my grandaughter. It worked and really gives the floor extra Pop!

Please no more mention of glitter....if my daughter hears there is glitter, I will have a pink and purple glittered floor. Thanks for all the help. You have all sold me on the clear coat. Pics were great.

Chrisitine, did you get my PM with the questions?

What was the Clear Coat product that some of you have used over your Epoxy Coat floors.
