Epoxy-Coat questions?

I want to order the Epoxy-Coat system but from what I found on here I will probably need to do 2 coats. My garage is only about 750 sq ft so will 1 kit be enough or will I need 2?

I also wanted to know if I should fill the saw cuts in and if so what with?

I also wanted to know what to do with the concrete that sticks out of the garage. There is probably 6 inches that is outside the door. Can I coat this or will the sun and rain kill it?

This concrete is only a little over a year old and is still in perfect shape.

I would go with 2 coats. I think Epoxy-Coat covers about 500 sf per kit. So at 750 sf you'd need 3 kits. I didnt have saw cuts, so I can't help you there. My floor goes 6" past the door also, but I only epoxied up to the inside face of the garage door. dont know if sun or rain will damage it, but I think most guys on this site only epoxied inside of their garage doors.

Oh, I guess I didn't realize they only covered 500. So do people do something else to treat the part that sticks out?

I just coated my floor. On the piece that sticks out past the garage door, I masked it off at the inside edge of the garage door. From the outside, with the door closed, you can't tell anything has been painted. From the inside, it is painted all the way up to the door. Be careful that you don't get your door seal stuck in the epoxy paint while it it drying.

I'm getting ready to do my floor this week and I was planning to paint the outside 6 inches because I thought if that part gets wet from rain or snow, moisture could seep under the epoxied inside area and it may cause the epoxy to peel or flake. Just my thoughts.

Has anyone here done this? That is what I was going to do but I am a little worried about rain/snow/sun causing it to peel on the outside then I end up with a nasty peeling edge that might start to creep into the garage.

Some epoxies may chalk with prolonged exposure to sunlight, unless coated with a UV inhibitor, or a urethane top coat. You have to have an edge somewhere where you stop the paint. If the surface is prepared properly, you should not have problems with the epoxy sticking. That is one of the advantages of epoxy.

I taped mine off under the doors. It made a real straight line and looks pretty good. There is another 2'+/- to the edge of the concrete.

So where the door touches the ground, there is no epoxy?

the door doesnt touch the epoxy - but the epoxy goes up to the inside face of the door. I disabled my garage door opener, and put 2x4's flat under the door so the bottom of the door was off the floor. The boards were slightly to the outside so they wouldnt interfere with the epoxy. I then left the door slightly open on the boards while curing. The also helps with the smell

The only problem with this is that bugs can crawl in under the door and create a nice "design" in the epoxy. that happened on my first coat, so i put down plastic dropcloths outside the door for my second coat
