Epoxy Coat Six Month Report

It's been six months since I applied Epoxy Coat to a new 1500+ sq. ft. garage. I don't have any UV issues so I did not use the UV protection coating. I do have a heavy flake in the finish. This is a combination workshop/garage so I do a fair share of various automotive and woodworking type projects in it.

It does receive a lot of compliments and still looks good. It is very easy to keep clean. Spills are easily wiped up and there are no stains. It does not pick up tire marks. The main downside so far is poor abrasion/impact resistance. I'm careful when working and don't typically drag heavy items across the floor or drop heavy objects on it but it doesn't take much weight or impact to scar the surface. Even dropping a 1" box wrench (that is pretty light weight) on the floor will ding the surface. Last week I lowered a tractor/loader bucket onto the floor and that left a couple of 1" scars- I didn't expect that to happen so easily. I've taken to marking these dings with blue painter's tape and periodically mix a small batch of leftover Epoxy Coat and touch them up with a brush.

So my overall rating would be B+. With better resistance to scars and dings I'd rate it higher.

I have epoxy clear coat over acid stain and I have the same complaint. It scratches and chips easy. I am considering applying a urethane top coat over the epoxy in hopes that it will help.

When you go to patch it up make sure you mix up enough so you can get the ratio right. I did a few little mix up jobs that I eyeballed, about 1 thimble of A and 2 thimbles of B and it didn't harden correctly.
