I was excited to get my epoxy-coat samples. I requested a few different samples
---plain white
---white w/ anti slip
---white w/ white flakes.

The looked nice, so i decided to take some pics and share.

Only one problem.... It was soft enough for my thumbnail to dent it.

I was really hoping for more... If i can dent it with my thumb, what's going to happen when i drag my jack across it, or put up a car on jackstands? I was even able to mar it by lightly scraping the tip of a spoon and by rubbing my daughters shoe back and forth on it.

Did i get **** samples? Is Epoxy-coat really this soft? Anyone else have similar experience with other brands?

UPDATE: Epoxy-coat customer service says it should no be that soft and are sending another sample.

Update #2: New sample was better, but still softer than I would have liked to see. The old samples however are rock solid and I unable to dent. I'd say thats good news

About 2 years ago i ordered some of their product because of how cheap it was for a 100 percent solids product... i wasn't impressed and have never bought it again. If you can dent it with your thumb def stay away that is not normal...

Did they send you the epoxy to mix and apply, or were they already coated sample boards?

That's a working man's thumb you got there, jab it with pride!

White floor in a garage  will the walls be gray? This thread might start everyone posting pics. of their thumbs. :spit: I'm trying to learn about Epoxys and I take it this is not a good thing. it seems if they would send a sample it would go through some kind of QC.

I've done Epoxy coat twice. The first time it dried slowly and for a few days I was able to thumbprint it. After that it's been hard as a rock. The second time I applied it, within 3 hours it was hard as a rock. I blamed my first application on temp/humidity and perhaps a bad mix of part A & B. I'd check back on the sample in a week or two and I'll bet it's rock hard (assuming they mixed it properly in the first place). Both of my floors have done great and neither can be dented by a thumbnail (or any nail) now.

AG - They were pre-made samples.

LOL! most of my work is hitting a keyboard, but every now and then I get some dirt on em.

700jfm - I am planning a white floor with a possible two tone wall (grey bottom white to the top with a stripe or two, white ceiling).
I'm going to assume since they mailed em pre-made, that they have already had time to dry and harden.

Fuzzymoto - How is it holding up to jack stands?

I called ucoat for a sample, and the will not provide. they said i can get a random sample for 20 bucks..:wtf:
Musclegloss said they'd make me a sample of white. I'll post those as well.

I can see that, and on top of the gray maybe put black and white checked. kind of like what V10killer did in his garage.

The floor jack probably has a flat base. The feet of the jack stands I have are shaped like an L, and I'm afraid of digging into the epoxy.

This stuff is rock hard so I doubt anything will dig in...I just haven't had any need to try jack stands yet.

I too would like to see feedback on this. At some of the mils. this epoxy has to be applied :headscrat I don't see how it wouldn't do something. I use jack stands and floor jacks all the time. (Some cutting and welding too)

What is the substrate?

My ArmorSeal will dent if I drop something from a distance on it.

So what Moog's do you have?

No moogs.... :(
I did use an arp 2600 many years ago when I was in school.

I'm sure some heavy falling stuff would dent it... but we're talking my thumbnail.. It scares me to think I might spend 500 bucks for something I can dimple with my finger. Might as well forget any work at all at that point.

I'm still waining for my musclegloss sample, and have written off U-coat for asking me to buy a sample.

So I called epoxy-coat, and they said it should not have been soft enough to dent with my thumbnail.

They will make another sample for me.

I asked about using jackstands, and said it can be scratched... but not dented.

I'll keep epoxy-coat in the plans until final decision time comes.

I just used this product on Sunday and it is rock hard. I had a hard time trying to scrape off unwanted spills on the driveway.

My new epoxy coat sample came in.
While it is a much better sample, I can still dimple it with my thumb.

I also tried again on the old plain white sample, and it in infinitely harder to mar.

I also tried the chipped, and nonslip samples, and cannot dent it.

I can only attribute this to longer time to cure to rock solidness.

For the price, I'd say they are still not out of the question, but I'm waiting on musclegloss (Similar price) samples and more info SW armorseal.

I'm thinking that with any of these products, I'd wait two weeks before any real work goes on in there.

I received my MuscleGloss sample.
Much better than the epoxy-coat samples. Now way I can even pretend to make a mark with my thumbnail, no matter how nasty it is.
Some real scientific tests lke jabbing it with a spoon did not make any marks. It took a bit of effort to scratch it by scraping it with the spoon handle.

I'll post pics of it next to the epoxy coat sample
