I am planning on putting a epoxy coating on my garage floor soon, this is just a car hole and does not see any kind of mechanic work. ( I have a work shop for that) I have seen a lot of commercials about the many kinds of epoxy coatings but I would like the opinion of you guys that have actually used it. I like the look of the coatings with the speckled paint chips like the U Coat It. What is the best product out there that I can put down and have to redo it for many many years. I don't mind spending the money if I am happy with the results. thanks guys. Rick

more important than the epoxy you use is the prep work

unless your existing concrete is new or very clean, the best method is to have it bead blasted before you pain it.

I just got done this weekend doing mine with Rustoleum's Professional Epoxyshield.
http://www.rustoleum.com/product.asp?frm_product_id=59&SBL=1

It is solvent based and is suppose to be alot tougher then the water based products. Rustoleum also sell's a water based Garage Epoxy. The instructions say that you only need 1 coat, but I would plan on doing 2. It will look alot better. I was very pleased with how well it went on and it even went farther then advertised. It is ALOT cheaper then Ucoat It and you can buy it at Home Depot. To do my 1600 sq ft floor I used 7 kits @ $99. Ucoat It would have been at least $1600. There is alot of work involved in getting it prepped. It does make it alot easier if you are starting out with a new floor. Mine was new but had a sealer put down on it that I had to remove. That involved renting a Edco surfacer and 2 FULL weekends work. Then you will need to wash the floor THROUGHLY followed by a wash down with muratic acid to etch the concrete.

In my research here, it seems that the Rustoleum product and the Epoxy-Coat brands are the ones that are used more. I would do a search here and do some reading. You will find plenty of great info to help in your decision. Good Luck!

Just went out to take a first look (after 24 hrs) at my finished floor. You mentioned wanting the flecks. They will make the surface rougher if you do not use the clear coat. Might actually be a benefit though to make the floor more slip resistant. It does look great!

I don't believe the Amoroseal is available anylonger. I was at SherwinWilliams today and asked about it, and the guy said they didn't have it and couldn't get it. It may have changed names or something, or maybe the guy I delt with didn't know anything about it, but according to him it's unavailable.

I just bought some in December, but I guess it's possible. OldCarGuy, any news on this?
