hey all,

I want to epoxy my garage but i am concerned the etching agent may stain or fade the asphalt driveway.....i live in a townhome...so i share the main drive with other homes.

i was going to purchase the rustoleum from menards ( yes i know its not the highest quality but i am on a budget )

so any advice / suggestions / experiences would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

when you acid etch, the acid chemically reacts with the elements in the concrete, thereby neutralizing the liquid.

I would suggest keeping the asphalt wet with a garden hose while you acid etch. After a couple mins. on the concrete, the water/acid mixture is no longer acidic (at least not much).

While I believe it is overkill, you can get a bunch of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and sprinkle it on the asphalt near the concrete. Baking soda is basic, which neutralizes an acid. You can even, once you are done etching, sprinkle baking soda on the wet concrete of the garage prior to hosing it out. I think it is overkill, but you could do it.

Just keep the asphalt wet & you'll be fine.
