Epoxy Floor Caulk Repair

Hi everyone,

I added an epoxy coat (Rustoleum) to my garage floor last year. I love it, and it has held together very well even though I had some concern that it would peel. Recently, I had a home inspection done. The inspector recommended that I use "self-leveling" caulk in the floor joints so that water doesn't seep under the garage floor and cause problems.

I bought a few cans of caulk at Home Depot and proceeded to do a fairly bad job of caulking the joints. I tried my best, but I don't have the steady hand (or experience?) necessary to make the caulk look good in some spots. About 80% of the job is tolerable, but there are a few spots that I would like to fix.

I used a foam spacer below the caulk.

Here is my first question: If I try to pull/peel the caulk up to try again in a few spots, could that damage my epoxy coating?

Here is my second question: Should I paint the caulk? I'm nervous that the paint might make it look worse, and I'm not sure how well paint holds.

Thank you very much for your thoughts.

:dunno:

Pulling the caulk out should not hurt your coating unless you are using a sharp tool. Use SikaFlex self leveling caulk. It will flow right into your joints and self level for a nice finish. You can find it at your local home improvement center.

Thanks. I used DAP self leveling before. Is the sikaflex much better?

For anyone who is interested and reads this later, the Sikaflex is leaps and bounds better than the DAP. It laid cleaner, settled more, and looks better. Thanks!@
