Epoxy floor scratches

Hey guys:

I recently had a pro come in an install Legacy clear epoxy onto my basement floor over top of a black stain. After waiting three days to walk on it, everything looked great so I decided to unroll my cove base I was waiting to install. As I did that I noticed that I was leaving tiny little scratches everywhere and 1 [for me anyway] huge scratch from the cardboard box the cove base came in.

What I am lead to believe is that the epoxy isn't cured anywhere near enough yet and I should lay low for a few more days - no big deal, however what are my options to address the large scratch [and if possible the tiny little scratches] I put along the walls? Is this something I should work out now while it is still soft or wait until it is fully cured?

Thanks.

Let it cure a few more days. Screen with 80 or 100 grit, wipe dust off and recoat. Yes the whole floor.

Trying to repair those over a black stain will be tough without a full recoat.

If given the choice then, I guess I have to live with them. The floor 'coat' is 1600 sq ft. and not something I am thinking about adding another coat to. [It was 3 buckets / coat] Maybe the entranceway will get a larger than expected rug...

Is it worth trying a really high grit polishing cloth at all?

It will scratch and show marks forever, the only way I have found is to put a urethane topcoat on it. The epoxy is so hard that it scratches easily, urethane is softer and has the ability to resist scratching as easily. You could run steel wool over it and live with matt finish.

Eventually the scratch marks in the epoxy are so plentiful that you learn to live with it.

I'm curious if there is a reason you went with an epoxy vs urethane? Are you in a an area with VOC regulations?

I left the decision up to a professional contractor. I'm not 100% sure on the pros / cons of epoxy and urethane. [and up to a point, I sort of don't want to know them now, because the job is done. ]

Urethane is more wear and scratch resistant as Tn mentioned, than the epoxy.
This is not typically a big deal, but going over the black stain makes any imperfection jump out.

Let me know if I can send you a little wax to play with. See if you can lessen the impact.

Scotty - I would love to give that a try. What is the best way to get in contact?

In addition - I am taking a load of pictures to put up. The Legacy product is fantastic and looks amazing, it's really just my stupidity that caused the scratch.

could you polish it out? I mean get to about 2000-3000 grit and some polishing compound at the end. Fill and polish.

Scotty - Sent you a PM, but for some reason I don't know if it went through. Can you confirm? I was also hoping to get you on the phone.
