Epoxy floor urethane top coat

Hello,

I'm working on epoxy project for my garage floor. I finished all the surface prep and yesterday I painted first half of my garage with the first coat. I realized late that in order to apply second coat I shouldn't wait too long otherwise it will dry and I'll have to sand it before.

So this time I wanted to be prepared with all coats so I can finish them before they dry.

- My question is about the urethane topcoat. Is it really necessary ? There is no sunlight exposure in my garage. Or will two coats of epoxy endure car traffic and car fluids ?
- If necessary, where can I find urethane ? I've been looking in amazon and all I can find are finishes for wood and furniture. I'm looking something for glossy finish.
- Also, do I need to apply it 3-5 hours after epoxy dries?
- If I wait more than 24 hours to apply urethane clear coat. If I sand the top epoxy coat then apply urethane top coat, will it look smooth and glossy or will the sanding be visible ?

Sorry for too many questions, trying to avoid mistakes this time :)

Thanks for this great forum which has been really helpful

You will probably be fine with epoxy if there are no sunlight issues and you are not doing heavier maintenance. Aliphatic urethanes and polyureas are available through the vendors who participate on this site. I think it's best to have all your coatings on hand and stick within the recoat times. Otherwise you need a pretty good scuffing and wipe down with denatured alcohol before you can recoat.

What epoxy product are you using? Is just one half done and the other half isn't?
