Hello,
My general contractor's attempt to install a 3-step epoxy coating using his painting subs has failed. We wasted $1500 worth of materials, and it came out OK in places, but soft and clay-like in others. I suspect that the cause of the failure was temperature-related. We failed to keep the temperature above 50F consistently, and the epoxy did not cure properly.
I don't want to name the paint vendor, because they have treated me very well, and I have no reason to believe that their materials were anything but first-rate. The painters were inexperienced, and the application and curing were inadequate.
The GC is determined to make amends, and has offered to strip the floor and apply a new one, installed by a local specialty firm, at no cost to me.
Has anyone heard of the PremierOne Epoxy system? It comes with a "polyaspiritic coating," and the typical application is 25 mils, comparable to what I was using. It's not water-based, but that's about all I know. It comes with a ten year warranty.
There may be better coatings available, but I live in a remote area without that many choices, and I just want to move on now.
Thanks, Tom
