Epoxy flooring question

I have a friend that has a 1200 square foot garage floor. He is wanting epoxy down but was going to bite the bullet on the box store epoxy floor kits. I talke him out of that. He's not sure whether he gets moisture on his floor from warm air and humidity onto a cool floor, or if he is getting moisture coming up through the floor. I explained to him how to check by taping down plastic sheet to the floor then wait 24 hours or so to see if it draws moisture up through.

Now the big question.......He is going to rent a diamond grinder and grind the floor himself. What he wants to know is how much would it cost for a top quality epoxy floor as a DYI, and also he would like to find someone close, or here in Ohio to see what it would cost for them to come in and do it.

Now my question to the floor reps on here, and you can send me a PM. My buddy does not have internet and doesn't even own a computer, so he os going through me to do the legwork. Can the resident flooring people that sell this send me a PM with a DYI cost for everything that is needed, and also if you have any contacts here in Ohio and Close to the West Liberty area on the West side of Ohio that he could call and have them come and give him an estimate? The reason I say the Western West Liberty is that there are two in Ohio and the other is up towards Pennsylvania.

He's not above spending money to get it done right so it will last, but he's not sure whether he wants to tackle it or just have it turnkey. But I did talk him out of the box store stuff that he will just get into trouble with I believe.

Thanks to all in Advance.

Re: Flooring question

Seriously? Only one flooring rep answered me, and he's not even one of the biggest posters on here. Someone's going to miss out on some money!!

I edited the title to be a bit more descriptive and perhaps draw in some of the epoxy guys. :)

Thanks A-P. I put my buddy on hold until tomorrow. I'm just going to have to set him behind the computer and he's just going to have to make calls. I was hoping to get a couple of ballpark figures so he has an idea as to the cost.

And like I stated before, this isn't for me, I'm not looking for a GJ Discount or anything like that. My buddy just built another 40'x60'x16' pole barn, and he has room to store his stuff so he is going to fix up his present pole barn that he was working out of which is a 30'x40'.

I wish it was mine I was doing, but that may be a few years down the road. I just bought momma the Olds, and I am going to have to get some supplemental insurance before the first of the year. I know where my money is going to.:sad:

Give Fred at Alpha Garage a call 877.333.GARAGE (4272) He doesn't come on here as much as he did, so he probably hasn't seen your post. He can answer your questions and possibly fix you up with a contractor. Scotty at Legacy Industrial 908-269-8300 would be my other recommendation.

I spent the last half hour copying off info for my buddy (Mark Stafford), so you should be hearing something from him before long. I have a feeling that he may be intimidated by the process that one has to go through, and maybe not, but he's looking to get it done real quick like before the temperatures really start to drop.

I will also him that if he does decide to do it himself, and that if he gets in a bind, to call whoever he decides to go with.

I did tell him it was going to be a few grand to do it or more to have someone come in and do it. He was going to just powerwash his garage floor and put down Rustoleum Garage floor coating. I'm fairly certain he is talked out of that now though after I told him that's not the proper way to do it and it would peel in no time.

Thanks to all.

Tell your buddy if he's interested in doing it himself to sign up for my next training. If he purchases my materials class is free. Were you able to contact one of my installers near him? He might consider having the installer do the grinding and install the epoxy himself if he is so inclined. Next class is Oct. 24-25 in Indy.

I ran copies off of everything with phone numbers and am going to go up to his house in a short as soon as I get my scrips filled. He's on his own after that.
