Epoxy floors and welding

I am building a multipurpose shop where I will be building vehicles, trailers, and doing various maintance tasks. I would really like to have my floor done to make it easier to clean, etc.

I have tried to read every thread and post on various epoxy coatings and haven't seen anyone really talk about how they use their buildings that have the floors coated. Does anyone weld significantly (I am not talking all day every day)? How does the floor hold up? Which manufacturer is best in this environment?

It appears from this forum that Wolverine seems to be the preferred manufacturer though I am not sure how well it will hold up to welding sparks. How easy are these floors to fix bad areas? Is it just grinding down and redoing the effected area?

I know nothing will last if a hot chunk of red hot steel lands on it. I am most concerned about normal welding sparks, plasma cutter sparks, etc.

I didnt have much luck finding ansers to the weld spatter problem...

The general concesus was you need to put a welding blanket down or your will get little burn spots all over. Thus why i decided against a floor coating...at least untill the manufacturers find a solution to this problem.

My precision epoxy floor is 10 years old and never stopped me from doing fab work. I weld on a table usually or try and use my welding blanket but the
truth is many times I'm to lazy to drag it out for a small job. Sure I've got
little burn marks,nicks,gouges,scrapes,stains etc. Bottom line is its still nice
to work on,muck cleaner than raw concrete,and mops up to still look
presentable. I used to worry about it alot when it was new and don't really
worry about it much at all now.

A penetrating floor sealer will often work well and will stop the dusting and staining that makes concrete hard to keep clean.

Those look like they would fit a mid 60's full size chebby wagon with a nasty caddy motor I could be wrong though .

I have yet to coat my floor for the same reasons I do to much welding and fab work and figure it would look bad after a while.

I've got 6 years of welding on my Valspar, no issues. It does burn right through the 2x2 foam pads along my workbench, though.

I haven't welded ON the floor much, I weld on a steel grate on top of sawhorses usually, so it falls 3' before it hits the ground. I suppose if I got on my hands and knees and had my face a foot from the floor I might see marks, but damn, we aren't welding on a showroom floor, are we

If I had it to do over again, I would be putting it right back on my floor, just as I did. I have zero complaints.

I want to thank those that provided their experiences. I am wondering if having some of these tiled floors around the welding area would hold up. Maybe even under the lift so when I weld on vehicles up on the lift.

Anyone using these tiles when welding?
