Epoxy Help for a DIYer

Hello,

Last weekend I attempted to paint and roll Rust Oleum Epoxy Shield in my garage. Unfortunately I am not happy with the results. A couple of the sections are still tacky and clearly something was not right. I followed the directions closely and I am not sure what I did wrong. From power washing to etching to power washing more I thought I was good to go for a fantastic garage floor. Last Sunday was about 70-72 degrees and the humidity wasn't too bad and I completed both gallons within 90 mins and yet I have 3 sections that are tacky. I have asked around as well as done google searches for a way to basically start over. I was going to rent an orbital floor sander this weekend to hopefully take up the epoxy and start over. Is that my best course of action? My garage floor is about 5 years old now and never had any paint or epoxy on it previously. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciate.

Scrape it and wipe clean with an appropriate solvent.
For solids epoxies we use xylene or xylol.

Important to clean all the uncured material out as it will contaminate the next coating.

Definitely do a super job cleaning up and removing the old material.

In our opinion the only thing that can cause this is improper or inadequate mixing, since if the material was defective it wouldn't cure anywhere. Tacky spots come from the areas where the material that wasn't thoroughly mixed got on the floor.

When this does occurs we always strongly recommend priming since now the floor will have uneven porosity so it may come out blotchy if you just recoat alone.

We carry matching primer for our Armorclad Epoxy Kits.

Thank you.
