Epoxy Metallics? Pros and Cons?

I wanted to post the question about Epoxy color metallics/pigments for use in a garage environment?

We generally, use this product more often in commercial or retail spaces..sometimes residential closets and etc...

However, I've completed a few Metallic garages in the last couple of months and wanted to get some feedback from anyone who's been using this product in garages for years?

How does it hold up?

Pros and Cons?

Seems to be gaining in popularity!

Dark colors are tough to keep clean. Holds up as well as any 100% solids coating. I like mine with urethane over top.

are you using an epoxy primer (back ground color) or going direct with pigment and clear epoxy over concrete?

I'd think/hope a pro would know the answers to these questions before doing these jobs? Separately, why would they hold up any differently than any other job, especially if top coated?

BD..... We generally do not use this product in a garage setting (closets, retail stores and etc), however I've been getting more request for garages....Additionally, a full broadcast flake application at 100% hides quite of bit of scratches,smudges and etc...

I wanted some feedback from other members as to there experience using this product in a garage environment and how it "hold ups" over the long haul!!!

I have personally installed a few metallic floors. We recommend two coats of primer. Black brings out the "metallic" look. A lighter primer can be picked for a lighter floor. The clear we have is not Just an epoxy clear. It has built in uv-protection and it is high flow, allowing the pigment to really move through the material. You need a notched squeegee and an 18" roller to apply correctly. Urethane is optional but it will keep it nice and is the best way to apply a non-skid.

Its pretty neat to see. We are working on a little video to show the process.

I flat out refuse to do it for customers in a garage. If I do any solid epoxys in a garage I use anti slip additive to provide grip. But with the glossy finish of the metallic, I think it ruins the coolness of it.

I dont want to ever get a call from a customer saying they fell and broke a limb, or their kid did! Just my rationale.

I'm in the Toronto, Canada area. Our snow makes it non desirable in my mind- for garage use. Indoors, Heck yeah.

Shaun, I am with you, safety first. However, adding a urethane topcoat that includes our soft-skid product will add more safety and it still looks pretty good.

That's a good idea about adding the anti skid not only will it
Help with the traction but Also help to Break up any minor surface imperfections and etc.

I still prefer the 100% broadcast over the metallics for garages.

We typically we use a single primer application of black or dark gray as the base for our retail applications of metallics however we did a breezeway area last month with a banana
Yellow primer with a copper metallic which turn out quite nice!
