Epoxy over sealer?

We put down a curing sealer to keep the floor from getting stained during construction. Worked well but am now thinking about epoxy coating. Did we screw up and need to strip the sealer before the epoxy? I am thinking we do. If so, what's the simplest way to do that and still have a good job?

You will need to grind the surface to remove the sealer. The grinding will prep the concrete for the epoxy coating at the same time.

Can anyone tell me what the rough cost would be for a 30 x 40 slab to grind and epoxy? I realize it varies widely with location but just trying to get some idea to start from. I would have this done, not DIY.

It really depends on what type of epoxy system that you want.. But, with having to remove a sealer you could probably start estimsting around $5 per square foot.

Yow! That's $6000!! Maybe we will stick with sealer for now... Would be useful to know about how much of that is for grinding and how much for epoxy application.

Racedeck would be good for your situation. I sealed my concrete same as you right after construction. I think $5 is low for grinding and a proper epoxy job plus urethane top coat.

In SE Mich i just paid $1900 for a 400 sf two car garage. Grind patch, prime/seal, color and then clear with sharkskin anti skid. 1 1/2 days work for two workers plus materials. Could walk on it after a day but waited ten days before moving heavy iron on the floor.

Shea is correct, if there is a sealer, they are designed to repel, so the floor should be grinded. Use primer too.

As noted above garage floor tiles can work also, but are more expensive for the materals but zero chance of failure. We carry our www.supratile.com industrial grade solid PVC tiles.
