Hi,

I struggled with this same question when I used the Rustoleum Professional on my floor. I talked with the folks at Rustoleum and they said they do not produce a primer that is designed to be used with the EpoxyShield and they do not recommend using one. I was worried that if I used a primer from a different company I might have some type of reaction issues between the two products. I decided to just apply two coats of the EpoxyShield (24 hrs apart) and considered the 1st coat as my "primer". I then applied 2 coats of the Premium Clear over the EpoxyShield. In the end, everything turned out great and has held up very well in the last year. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. That sounds like a good plan. Did the second coat take less material? How long between the 2nd coat of epoxy and the first clear coat? Also, how long between the first clear coats and second clear coat?

I just layed down the water based Valspar 2 part epoxy as my primer, and used Rustoluem professional as my base coat on top. Just completed it, so hopefully everything takes.

I have not heard on this forum of any epoxy's not being compatible with another...
