So I've got a fairly new home, about 3 yrs old. I've dedicated a part of my garage for my gym equipment and weights. I drank the kool-aid and got into CrossFit, so a lot of my workouts involve dropping weights from chest level or higher.
I've always been concerned with the amount of noise/vibration when I drop the weights, as if I'm damaging the floors and foundation of the house. I only use rubber bumper plates- in fact I've tried all types of bumpers (never any iron plates). I even use 3/8" thick horse stall mats to try and cut down the impact.
If I'm lifting dead in the middle of the garage, the noise and vibration is crazy high. The closer I am to the walls or edges of the garage, the less severe the impact, and the weights seem to have a dead blow with little to no shuddering of the floor/walls.
Is there something wrong with my garage and the way the slab was poured? Does an epoxy or poly coating do an effective job at deadening noise and impact?
