What is the difference in epoxy floor covering and urethane? My church buddy owns a commercial floor surfacing company and told me this morning that he recommends urethane. He does big production plants, like the Mercedes plant in Al. Preparation and application sound like epoxy. He did say that the second coat should be put on the first while the first is still tacky to the touch. Any of you folks have any experience with this stuff (perhaps urethane is epoxy or vice versa.
Thanks, Mike

I'm considering doing my floor with a urethane topcoat. From what I read, it is the very tough in all aspects. Its downside is that it doesn't mechanically bond to concrete very well, but it chemically bonds to epoxy very nice. Check out http://www.ironitecoatings.com/theultimategaragefloor.html They have a 3 step coating. Primer, Epoxy (color) and Urethane topcoat. The price was inline with other epoxy only coatings and seems like it will last much longer. They are sending me a free sample in the mail.

Whatever I decide to use, I'll document it all the way with pics. I guess i need to start a thread on my garage buildup!

Good luck, keep us posted on your decisions.

Dr V: I have bought the Rustoleum Professional 2 part product and have prepared the floor (cleaned, scrubbed, etched-you name it-two day's worth). I might start the actual painting today if the surface has dried enough (it has been 48 hours.) Thanks. Mike
