EpoxyCoat Application

I'm almost ready to paint my prep'd floor with EpoxyCoat and am a little confused by the instructions - specifically the part where you squeegee, backroll and then wait 10 minutes before backrolling a 2nd time. It refers to squeegee'ing and doing a 1st backroll on a 2nd region in the meantime. Where is this 2nd region? I thought you just squeegee everything you've poured at once (after cutting in, of course)? Thanks!

Ferrino, I just completed my Epoxy-Coat this past weekend, by myself (mistake). I did several 1/2 gallon A to quart B batches one right after the other. I recommend you have someone mixing batches while you squeegee and roll. It also helps to have a third person rolling. As soon as you have the first rolling completed on section one pour the other batch down and squeegee/roll. The object is get it down, spread out & rolled before it becomes unworkable. Also get spike shoes/sandals, if you don't you will be sorry. Get several more rollers. Can't hurt to buy a better/larger squeegee either. Have at least a small can of solvent for cleanup. I also had to mix my part A for about 15 minutes to get all of the solids off the bottom of the bucket and unclummped if thats a word. If using more than one bucket of part A mix each for 15 min. if needed then mix together and remix several more minutes. Watch the red paint on the provided paint mixer if your drill chuck slips it will put red paint flakes in you mix. Most importantly don't pour if the sun is shining on your slab, the mix will set unreasonably fast.

ok, so as i understand it, you are supposed to: mix, pour, cut-in, squeegee, backroll. then repeat for the 2nd section and quickly go back and do a 2nd backroll on the 1st section, followed by spreading flakes and anti-slip. then go back to the 2nd section and do the 2nd backroll etc.

Does that sound right?

You got it. Thats what worked for me. The warmer it is or hotter the slab is & the less time you have to work with each batch. You will get a resistant feel from the roller & that will tell you to speed up if you need to. Try speeding up on the squeegee application if you need to but don't skimp on the rolling. I used a new roller after every two batches. Post pictures when you finish.

Thanks. What would be considered an ideal temperature to apply EpoxyCoat at? Looking at 68 degrees tomorrow...

70 is the ideal application temp. You should be in really good shape.

Dumb question but I gotta ask. What is backrolling?

The second rolling of the section. The main purpose of back rolling is to relieve any surface tension (air escaping) and to make sure the coating is rolled out evenly.

Thanks for all your help. It must have been about 67 degrees when I painted the floor in the evening and I had lots of working time, which was a great help. After talking to Christine, I decided to focus on one area at a time (i.e. I poured, cut-in, squeegee'd, rolled, backrolled and flaked one area entirely before moving onto the next). Will post some pics when I've finished painting the walls etc.!
