Hey I was just thinking about it....what should I do with the threshold? Epoxy it or leave it bare concrete? I'm just wondering if I should paint under where the door comes down or not.

Well it is done. I forgot to upload my pictures yesterday...I'll get them up tonight.
It turned out ok-good. I spent Friday night and Saturday morning grinding the floor with a single disk stone grinder. A diamond grinder would certainly be faster as I had to go over it three times to get a good surface. I had no clue what I was trying to achieve at first but once I started seeing the floor turn from a polished looking surface to a dull sanded look I knew I was getting there. Make sure you vacuum between each round of grinding as the dust collects in the stone disks and makes the sanding go slower.
Although I had read numerous times to dump the bucket out as soon as you mix it for longer cure times I was unable to do this. The problem we ran into was that it was just too hard to dump, spread, roll and flake all at the same time. If you go too slow the epoxy starts to cure, if you go too fast you get out too far to evenly spread the flakes (try throwing a fist fill of shreaded paper more than a few feet in front of you and you'll get the idea). It was a bit of a chaotic time but overall I'm happy.
Me, my wife, and best friend worked our butts off for the entire hour it took to mix and spread two kits over my 26x26. The feeling you get once you first pour the two parts together is excitment and fear. I certainly didn't "enjoy" the painting part.
In the end I ended up with several roller marks in the floor but more than good enough for a working garage. I love the way it looks, I'm excited about having a sealed floor to work on, and the wife loves it, so it is a success. I think I would do a better job next time...but I'm not sure if I want to do it again! haha
I also ended up with tons of extra flakes. Each kit comes with a bag of gray and light blue flakes. I also purchased a bag of gray and medium blue flakes and a can of dark blue quartz flakes. I read that for a light to medium density you need one bag per 250 sq ft....yeah I don't know about that. I mixed the bag of medium blue in with the quartz and used about half of that for my ~700 sq ft! I'd say I got about as much flake as I'd want, any more and you'd hardly notice it was gray epoxy. Sooo, if anyone wants to buy some addtional flake let me know!

Nice Floor, that looks great! So what did you end up doing with the threshold? Looks like where the door comes down is where you cutoff the epoxy, is that right? Did you find the 2 kits covered what was expected? How do you know if you are spreading to thick or thin?

Thank you. Yeah I just stopped at the expansion joint before the threshold. The door comes down on the outside of that joint. I think it would look odd if you could see the epoxy from the outside of the house.
I think the two kits covered just as expected. Unfortunately I wasted a lot of epoxy. I wish there was a half kit through Costco. I think if you draw the squeegy blade through the poured epoxy and roll it out you'll be at the desired thickness. The epoxy is pretty thick and can gather in puddles which is what the squeegy is for since the roller won't take out the thick spots.
