Hey guys,

I just finished my second base coat of professional epoxyshield this morning (Monday). Can I wait to apply the professional epoxyshield clear until Friday afternoon or Saturday morning? I know the package says after 24 hours but within 5 days. I'm in Florida heat.... Very humid. Product sets up very quick. I don't mind waiting to apply, in fact I prefer it. This is at a new (to me) house on the other side of town and I don't want to have to go after work one day this week. Looking for advice. Don't want to run into adhesion problems if I wait too long.

Wow, 75 views and nothing. I am assuming this isn't a popular floor option.

You wont get a lot of positive feedback around here regarding epoxyshield, but I would follow the manufacturers directions to the T! If you have issues, they will use anything they can to find you at fault.

I would recommend contacting Rust-Oleum to get their official answer. Additional coats need to be applied within 24 hours for most epoxy products in order to achieve a chemical bond. After that, the surface needs to be roughed up with sandpaper before another coat is applied.

We've heard reports that Rust-Oleum has stated up to 72 hours before reapplication, but not 5 days. The only DIY product that we are aware of that has such a large window is RockSolid polycuramine.

I called rustoleum and explained the situation to them, they said within 5 days it should be completely fine. I'll do it tomorrow just to be safe.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did this product cost per sq/ft? I found it to be a lot more with the clear top coat than some other 100% solids brands.
