Just an fyi for folks waiting for their box. I emailed Jori to make sure I was not lost in cyberspace, and apparently there was/is a backlog of packed boxes waiting for box art. Some of the art is really awesome, so I don't mind the wait, it just sounds like the order fillers got ahead of the artists a bit, so as hard as it is stay patient.
Mine now shows delivery Monday which is so EXCITING!!!

Finally got my order unpacked today - I haven't previously ordered box art, but I'm glad I did this year!

Yes, that's a bat having a lightsaber duel with a parrot. Yes, it's now a permanent part of my shop art!

And the haul for this year:
IMG_0238 copy.jpg
Hole saw kit in first aid box, new ear pro, chisel protectors, smooth jaw Channel-locks, SK bottle opener, lifting sling, dinner/service bell, brake tool, some small drill bits, etc. Now with more cowbell!

Thanks again, HJE! Time to start working on my wish list again...

Got my order the day before I left on vacation, didn't get to take any pics though. I must've removed the knipex twin grips from my cart because they didn't show up and they were the first thing I put in the cart :(. I'll order pair when I get back.

The malco adjustables are really nice.

My much anticipated package arrived a few days ago. I too sent Jori a message worried my order go lost but received a prompt reply notifying me of the back log. Small order this year so I was looking forward to box art as much as the tools. The art department nailed the request and my daughter wants to frame the masterpiece!

I didn't dare include the secret decoder ring in my picture.

My box finally arrived! Requested Ghostbusters box art since that’s my kids’ current favorite movie. Couldn’t be more impressed. Even the UPS driver was amazed by the delivery.
Bought some of the Yankee tweezers and they are very nice. The mystery bag got me an adjustable wrench and a #3 philips driver.
Ordered the malco eagle grips to support the new factory. Wow. These things are heirloom quality. I’m really impressed.
I also went for the machete set. These are a bargain for the money. Does anyone have any tips for sharpening these? They definitely need a better edge but they are very nice.
Thanks to HJE for the hat and the shirt. I think it’s my first time getting in on the freebies.

Finally got around to posting this. The wife and kids thought the box art was great. The last picture is from the $5.00 bag. Not sure what the thing on the top is other than some kind of bit. The other items were a Williams 19/32 socket, some kind of dimpling tool/punch that has an NSN number and a square metal bar with adhesive tape on the back.

Great stuff and I can't wait for next year. My only regret was I confused Crescent with Channel Lock and didn't get the keychain.

So happy with my first boxart. Asked for something traditionally Kansas 😀 Amazing artwork. Keeping that safe!
One or two non USA items but the rest is stars and stripes. Nicely packed as always from the staff at Epsteins. So delighted I got a trophy. Cant wait until Epstein's day next year although I'll have orders in long before then😀

HJE Epsteins's Day 2021.jpgIMG_0565.jpg
My order arrived to my APO last week. Not a large haul this year but picked up a few mostly USA odds and ends (Decoder wheel not pictured). Thanks for the great horse box art for my daughter who started riding this year. The second picture is from the two mystery bags with some great USA made products including a Mopar USA 3/8" wrench and a Wilde "crochet needle" looking tool that I'm still trying to figure out.

My mystery bag also included what very well may be a part of HJE history. At first I though maybe it accidently fell off a shelf into my order during packaging but it was very well wrapped. I present the Pièce de résistance- a Signode USA band tensioner complete with HJE autographed initials! I'm researching it's age and I wonder what HJE stories it could tell over it's decades of use in the store. Thanks Jori and the HJE crew. I will find a place to display it above my workbench and maybe find a use to band something.

That crochet tool is for headlight bulbs, the kind that are held in with a spring clip. If you ever need it, you will be sending HJE a thank you card, those clips can be a real PITA!

That's some freaking cool artwork!

I realize I'm dense but wtf does Epstein day represent? I don't understand the name
It’s a day, centered around the 4th of July, to buy tools made in the USA from the tool store, Harry J Epstein’s. It helps support American manufacturing and a small business.

It’s been going on for a few years, and an opportunity to buy some great tools and get a t-shirt and other goodies thrown in.

Very much worth it, so watch for it again next year.

Sounds like an excellent idea. I'm Canadian so I don't feel quite as dense for not hearing about it. Thanks for the info!

Is there usually a sale as well?

Yes, on a lot of the items. I needed a 35 mm impact socket and got some additional ones to fill some gaps in what I had. Same thing with some larger metric wrench sizes I needed. Wright makes quality tools, so I ordered what I needed from HJE.

The timing for the job I needed them for and the Epstein’s Day sale coincided, and got the Wright’s on sale.

One of these days I’ll place an order and request box art, but I can never think of something creative for them to paint…

I'm irked that I missed out this year. I recently started browsing somewhat regularly and never clicked on the thread because in my mind I thought it was something to do with the other Epstein haha. On the other hand, I'm only 6 minutes from them and KC Tool is only 6 minutes from my work and I haven't been to either for tools. I'm currently in the market for a hammer and metric wrench set and was gonna get them from Amazon.de.

Does their website lag for anyone else? It takes about 5 seconds to load a page or even go back to the previous page and I'm on Google Fiber.

Their website works fine for me. It might depend how many items you load up on each page. I noticed displaying 100 items can be a little slower but not by much. You are so lucky to be close to HJE, if it was me I'd live in the place. Good to support local businesses especially as HJE in turn are so good at stocking USA manufactured products.

Don't forget to sign up for the super secret Garage Journal Buying Club on the HJE site.

"How do I get those sweet sweet special GJ prices?" 🎰
  • You have to create an account on our website and then DM me your email address so I can add you to the special GJ group.
  • If you've already done this in years past you don't need to do it again.
  • If you're unsure if you've done this, just ask and I can tell you if you're signed up.
  • When you order be sure to leave a comment that says, "Happy Epstein's Day" or something like that. Points for creativity will be rewarded.

I ordered a quantity of large neodymium magnet from Epstein.
I received a cardboard box with the end blown out.
I complained and received another box..... a much more solid box with packaging.
I still have the magnets.
