Scarcity will do that. The cost (and these are expensive IMO, I wouldn't pay those prices for them) doesn't seem to be stopping people from excitedly snapping them up.

Reprice a set with those sizes on the truck and I think you'll find the Bonney's to be less expensive.

Might be true. I have never set foot on a tool truck, and am pretty ignorant about their prices, other than that they are high, relatively speaking.

Yeah... the $98 metric wrench set will be approx. $185 before I can touch it, with shipping, sales tax and customs fee factored in. Totally worth it since I've really wanted such a set for a long time.
Flight is 3 dollars.

Well to give everyone some perspective here's a few sets for comparsion:

Snap On standard length Flank Drive 3/8" to 1 1/4 677.30 (SnapOn.com)
Craftsman raised panel 3/8" to 1 1/4" 79.99 (Sears.com)
SK SuperKrome standard lenght 1/4" to 1 1/4" 230.25 (thetoolwarehouse.net)
Proto black oxide finish 3/8" to 1 1/4" 304.31 (mscdirect.com)
Bonney satin finish 3/8" to 1 1/4" 178.50 (harryepstein.com)


So they're cheaper than anything except Craftsman raised panels and within probably 30 dollars of the SK's when you figure for the extra wrenches in the SK set. With that in mind they're not cheap but they're not out of line either considering where they fell in the quality chain when they were produced. I agree with Bull about the large Metric set however, that much for a incomplete set is excessive IMO. I guess we'll see that prove out one way or the other by if they sell or not.

You also have to think about the fact that there is no warranty. Also if you happen to lose one finding a matching replacement may be difficult

It all depends on the way you look at it. On one hand they're both very usable and collectible, and are out of production, and aren't hugely common on the used market.

On the other hand, there's no warranty, they aren't purchased with the higher level of service that a tool truck offers, not much hope of finding the missing pieces, and plenty of alternatives (Craftsman, SK, Gearwrench, Toptul, for that matter even discounted Proto stuff on Amazon or maybe industrial finish).

I just bought a 17pc polish Proto set for $188. For Bonney to be that much it's kinda high to me...especially old stock. Don't get me wrong, I like Harry Epstein, first time I found that site from web searching, I bought about $200 worth. I just believe these Bonney are not that great of a deal...unless they are Snap On level quality, but they are old stock, unless you are a collector. Is the price excessive...nope... just not that great of a deal. I do wish they get more stuff soon so I can buy more goodies from them.

Well said and thank you for the comparison. Great information, I did not jump on it because the majority of wrenches are odd ball sizes that I would not use.

You're preaching to the chior on this one.
Though, I do like the features on Snap-On's angle wrenches. The angles being different and that Flank-Drive Plus broaching would be a great help I think.

First off look at the amount of metal involved, most metric wrench sets by number of pieces are physically smaller than a similar number piece SAE set. Plus the 14 pc SAE satin set look to be long or extra long wrenches for their size.

Can you confirm that the 9/16" wrench is around 10" long? Based on it being x-long, that is what I would expect but I want to confirm.

Are these Flank Drive?

I like Bonney but for me it's too much money to pay for tools that were discontinued over 15 years ago with no warranty. We didn't have the choices in wrenches then like we do now. Many times you can pick up a set of Snap-Ons for about the same money. OTOH it's a great deal if you want Bonney in paticular
