Hello everyone,
We are trying to gauge customers' top uses for our (or any) eraser pad out there, in order to determine the aspects that mean most to you, the people actually using the tools.
Any responses would be more than helpful, and greatly appreciated by the Astro Team.

Looking forward to reading your responses!

I've used yours, it doesn't ****. It makes it really easy to clean up after other peoples mistakes when they put body side moldings on crooked. Happened way more than you'd think at the last place I worked.

Now that I know there is another option out there, I will certainly look into it next time I need a new eraser wheel, it is certainly a cheaper price than I paid for what I have used in the past! They are certainly very handy and make quick work of adhesive and decals. No more blistered fingers and chemical soaked rags.

Glad to hear we could shed some light.
If you need any help finding a distributor near you, give us a ring at (800) 221-9705 and we will point you in the right direction.

We also have some handy kits that come with the eraser pad.

Thanks, a quick google search revealed your erasers available on Amazon, for nearly half the price of the comparable product I have used in the past.

Are those the ones that come with an air tool to use them with if you buy 10? If it is they are not worth the rubber they are made from. Eraser wheels work great, but I only use 3M yes they are pricey, but they work and they last.

Hell Metal,
I believe you are referring to an eraser pad from another manufacturer.

I used one of those once. I had to remove 1 little pinstrip sticker that hadnt fallen off the car( my car btw). Well I didnt have the correct tool for the eraser, so I thought I could use my die grinder if I just carefully throttled it. Well I got hung up on the hose stumbled, and full throttled it. That damn thing exploded and a very large piece went straight up. I was outside working, I never did see that piece come back down. Im fairly certain I put it into orbit with the velocity that it left the tool. Ahhh to be young and dumb again, those were the days.

Id suggest putting a much larger warning sticker on it about rpms. To protect idiots like myself from myself, lol. Then again, I read it and ignored it anyway.

For what its worth, it did a very good job of removing most of the sticker without burning the paint, right up until I destroyed it

Hey srmofo,
Sorry to hear that happened, but definitely glad you are okay.
We will surely make note of implementing a larger warning sticker regarding the RPMs.

Thank you so much for the great feedback and suggestion!

Have an awesome day! :pimpflash

I use them in my shop for pinstripe removal and adhesive removal. I have found that they work decently with a cordless drill if I am someplace with no air available.

If used properly they do not cause any undue marring on the finish and I am able to polish out the area with no visible indication that something was removed.

Yeah I'll admit I have never bought the actual tool myself, mainly because I'm cheap, but also due to the fact I never found the point of it. But I've always just chucked it in my cordless drill (corded sometimes) and hammered down. I never have damaged paint doing so.

Actually I saw them using one with a cordless drill on horsepower TV this morning. Now I feel really stupid for not thinking of that back then.

Pretty much always use them with a cordless drill. removing double sided tape from mouldings. be careful of heat buildup on plastic body parts. Couple accidents at the shop of guys taking off moulding tape on plastic hatches and melted right through them.

Hey Folks,
Just a heads-up that the cordless drill is not our tool recommended for use with the pad.

You can find all the proper information in the user manual.

Have great week!

Do you have a link so i can give you a definitive response?

Melamine foam (formaldehyde-melamine-sodium bisulfite copolymer) is manufactured in Germany by BASF under the name "Basotect". BASF Story about Mr. Clean Magic Eraser:
http://www.plasticsportal.net/wa/plasticsEU/function/conversions:/publish/common/upload/foams/basotect_consumer_eraser.pdf

"The open-cell foam is microporous and its polymeric substance is very hard, so that when used for cleaning it works like extremely fine sandpaper, getting into tiny grooves and pits in the object being cleaned. On a larger scale the material feels soft. Rubbing with a slightly moistened foam may remove otherwise "uncleanable" external markings from surfaces. For example, it can remove crayon, magic marker, and grease from painted walls and wood finishings, plastic-adhering paints from treated wooden tables, and adhesive residue and grime from hubcaps."

Interesting - doing patent search on invention for "Portable vehicle adhesive remover for removing pinstripes, decals, side moldings and other adhered items from a vehicle" (patent 5,259,914) reveals that it's a rubber disk that heats up adhesive by friction.

So it's basically a burnishing pad, indeed nothing like melamine foam. I had a lingering suspicion that they are the same, but they are actually very different. The way this products are marketed creates some confusion IMHO.

Hello GarageWarrior,
My apologies on the mis-communication, i wasn't aware that you were asking about the composition.

We appreciate your feedback.
What do you feel would be a less confusing way of marketing this pad?

You can mention that it's primary mechanism of cleaning action is heat/friction. Otherwise it's easy to confuse it with abrasives pads (scuff pads, scotch-brite, malamine foam, magic eraser, etc).
