Found this at an estate sale for cheap. I had to find a creative way to remove it from the bench, but I got it. It says Erie Ironworks and has 3.5'' jaws.

Should I not use this as a welding table vise, likely getting splatter on it? Or is it something I should restore or not care?

You could "hot tank" it, then give it a repaint and it would look real nice. Or use as is...all depends on what you want to do with it. Looks like a decent vise.

What was the issue with removing it from the bench?

Thanks, its a car neon light system wired up to a transformer for a set of computer speakers I have. The lights are velcro'ed to the bottom of the box. :)

Pimp my Toolbox !!!:lol_hitti

As far as the vise, I really wouldn't splatter it all up with weld. I get a HF vise to do that to. Good AMERICAN made tools are getting harder to come by. I'd redo it and use it for everyday work, but not get weld splatter all over it.

The exposed screw on that vise tells me its a cheaper model vise, no matter how old. I would not use it on the welding table because spatter on the screw might make it difficult or impossible to operate properly.

I assume you are talking about the screw that pulls the jaws together. Never thought about it, but I have seen vises with a shield over the screw. So that's at least one of the reasons for it.

Nice vise, quick redo and put her to work:thumbup:
