Erratic Heat Pump

So I'm sitting outside on the porch next to the heat pump while it's running. It's 60 degrees here right now , so the heat just kicked on for only the first or 2nd time all morning.

So the heat pump shuts off, makes a slight noise, then the fan coasts down to a stop.

Meanwhile, there's still an continuous electronic hum coming from it even though the fan is still. This goes on for maybe 30 seconds.

Then the fan starts to spin again, but only for about 2 seconds. Before it gets to full speed everything shuts off, goes silent, and the fan stops coasts back to a stop.

Any idea what this may be? I'm assuming it's not "normal".

Having 2 HP's myself it almost sounds like it was in defrost mode. But being 60 outside I doubt that was it. I don't have a clue. Could have been a hiccup.

Sounds like a defrost cycle with temp sensor problems. Wait for a little cooler weather to see what its doing. Should cycle off fan, make noise, compressor hum, coil get hot, make noise, fan come back on and blow steam or moisture out if its a normal defrost cycle. The noise is the reversing valve letting gas reverse for heating (defrosting) outside coil, and then reverse again for outside coil to get cold and inside coil to get hot.
