This unit fits nicely between the 215 and 250 amp markets. The specs on it are more in line with 250 amp units. The only thing I see with wrong with it is the price point. It would be nice if it was under $2000. I see it going for around $2400 most places. At that price, you might be better off spending a little more and stepping up a class.

Not much to step up to tho. All you'd be getting is about 50+ amps and 5 -10% more duty cycle for 600 - 1000 more bucks. And it also wouldn't be inverted or multi process.

Great for the versaltility (ie 120 and 220) but beyond that I think I am still more interested in the Linde welder I sourced

yes , but those 50+ amps and d.c. gets you in spray mode all day long and the target buyers don't really need multi-process machines

The Esab 215 will spray transfer. So the Esab 235 should be fantastic. All it takes is 26 and higher volts to spray. All the bigger migs are still transformer based as well. It's nice to not need 80 amps just for your welder. I'm starting to like the multi process machines, as the prices of welders are still going through the roof. 5 years ago in canada you could buy a MM252 or lincoln 255 for 1800 - 2000. They're now 3200 - 3400.

@Lord , I don't know man, never tried small migs like this one , looks very nice and I love ESAB

as for 215 doing spray , yes guess it could do it but not all day long

Yes they do. But they don't offer customer/warranty support like the big 3 do. You could be sitting dead in the water for months waiting for parts and service. You also have to pay for all the shipping even tho the machine is under warranty.

Didn't want to start another thread so I'll bump this.

Has anyone bought a 235 yet? There are none here locally, only the 215's. LWS said they have several 215's come back for warranty work.

Just ran one at FabTech last week, it is a good machine. stable arc in all modes. I think the price point is to high.

Bump, anyone taken one of these for a test drive yet?

From what I've seen, there have been a fair amount of QC complaints for the first year they were out. MIG drive system seems to be sloppier than most. Some have shimmed the drive wheels to help with this.

I don't know if they've fixed the 110V bug where it just refuses to operate on some people's house 110V. ESAB has given no clear answer as to why this is, as it is power straight from the grid-- it should be just fine to run the machine, but some machines giver error after error when attached to 110.

The rebels do not seem to be as good as the fabricators. ESAB switched to a new Chinese partner for these machines (one of Everlast's former partner's actually). I haven't heard any recent complaints so I'm assuming they have worked out most of the bugs by now.

As for price complaints they do make a mig only machine (EM 235ic) at a lower cost than the multi-process. The wire drive system does have a bit of a wine to it that can't apparently be alleviated. Very stable arc and easy to set right out of the box (SMIG), but it strikes that fine line between industrial and hobby welder. That may be why it doesn't seem like good value to a hobby welder. Voltage drop under load is usually the culprit on machines faulting out. This can be caused by many issues your average homeowner would not be aware of.
