Escape From Illinois Garage

I finally found a house in Wisconsin that mostly satisfies what I wanted. Been searching for 2 years.
I'm coming from a house in a cramped subdivision with a small 2 car garage (19 x 21) and high taxes.
My new house has an attached 2 car (22 x 22) I wanted a 3 car but this will do.
It also has a detached 2.5 car (26 x 28) and a 12 x 20 shed.

The previous owner had a nice wood working shop in the detached, fully insulated with heat, 200 amp service and plenty of 20 or 30 amp and 220v outlets. (not really 100% sure what I have, I haven't moved in yet).
I plan on setting it up to park and work on my Chevelle and a woodworking shop. Here are some pics for starters.

Moved from Wheaton IL to Reno NV. No state income tax and less than half the property taxes. Will the last person leaving Illinois please turn off the lights?

Nice place. I am very jealous. I'm still living in Lake County IL but don't plan on it for long. They are hell bent on killing the tax payers.

It looks like a nice place you have there. Are you restoring a Chevelle or using the garage to maintain one?

Sorry for the late reply, been moving in and have a million things to do.
To answer your question, I am maintaining one. It's partially restored but these cars are never really done. I'd like to tackle the electrical system over the winter now that I have a heated garage.

Great looking setup and congrats on getting out of Illinois!

Planning to do the same in the next couple of years. Looking at Kentucky or Tennessee.
Taxes and insurance are so low, we could even have 2 houses for a while if the right place popped up.

Need more pics of the '68!
My fav is a '69, had one for a while, never should have let it go!

I finally found some time to do one project that I have been waiting to do for a couple years since I got this workbench from my old company when we were moving. They cut out an opening to clear a support post which I needed to patch so I found a scrap piece of hardwood that matches pretty close and cut it to fit the hacked up hole. I used some biscuits and glue to hold it in place. and it fits pretty good so my first project is finally done. I got the Lista cabinets and legs also at the same time and have been waiting to put it all together.

Nice! Congrats!

I live in Lincoln Park/Gold Coast. Moving up to Lake county is considered an "escape" for me. Here in the city, $100 for a registeration, $100 for a city sticker, we even have to pay extra for garbage hauling, obviously our property tax can't cover that.

A better GJ title might be "Escape from Illinois and closer to Snap-On garage"

No city stickers here, but they tack on an extra fee on our electric bill to cover it.
We also paid extra for garbage and another fee for leaf/grass pick-up.
Paid for water, ect.....
Moving to lake county is not going to reduce your fees, I hate to tell you.

That's a nice place in WI.

I live in Chicago and purchased a home outside Nashville two years ago. That's where we will be heading in a few years.

The gun crime, bad politicians and high property taxes is what is causing me to leave Chicago and Illinois.

I am truly jealous... being in Du page county taxes aren't as bad as you had in Lake, but still lots of downsides to this state!

WE bailed out of St Charles and settled in Monterey TN.

We had looked at the Nashville area and two thing stood out. The Nashville area is on an accelerated growth, taxes are better than double what other areas are, and crime by young thugs has exploded. We are halfway between Cookville and Crossville. The only thing we are missing is HD and Menards.

Other than that, we are happy campers ..............

Installed my cabinets over the weekend that I had in my basement of my old house. I built these based on the dimensions from my former kitchen cabinets. I still need to make some doors for them but this will give me a lot of storage space.IMG_20191006_111556347.jpeg
