there's a recent thread on them in the tool forum. I haven't decided between these and the AC Hydraulics, which are now again available in the US.

Are they really AC, or just rebranded ESCO? Read something somewhere on the net that implied they were rebranded ESCO's.

I've never read that. But I've got conflicting stories from AC and from AC"s US dealer whether or not certain jackstands were made in Denmark. AC said they're not. The US dealer claims that he e-mailed AC Denmark direct to ask this question and they confirmed they *were* made in Denmark.

I'd like to know the steel spec. on Esco and AC stuff.

That's the problem. No clear/firm answer on where they are made.

I don't recall past rules, though I should. But currently, anything imported into the US has to have country of origin on certain documents. Though again, it's only last location of manufacture. So something made in China and finished in Europe could have Euope as COO w/o too much of a problem. This at least is what I've gathered from reading Customs's rules on that 10+2 form, which apparently is designed to help facilitate screen on terrorist and drug things.

But anyway, I'd wager that whoever is importing these things has to have COO on commercial invoice/bill of lading. My understanding (which may be incomplete or incorrect) from the other thread on the tool forum was that back when Ultimate Garage was selling these things, he was buying from a distributor in Fla. So maybe that distributor knew.

AC has a distributor in Canada that sells to US customers.

AC stuff is pricey due to the Dollar/Euro value disparity... all AC stuff is Danish... I've soken, via email, to one of the factory sales people a few years ago. AC jacks are fabulous and I'd buy one in a heartbeat if i had the $700.00+ it takes to own one.

Apparently not according to an employee at AC (mentioned on another thread here) who replied to an e-mail of mine claiming that the jackstands weren't made in Denmark. The employee would not be any more specific than that. This was about 2 months ago.

irisservice: You made my day! It's like picking Sam's choice cola over Pepsi. If your brand conscious get the AC Hydraulic stands, if not get Esco. :)

It's not about being brand conscious. It's about discerning whether there are real differences in manufacturing quality. Since I'm a fan of well-made things, the discussion isn't simply a choice between two crappy types of soda.

I bought the AC Hydraulic Flat Top Stands from www.acjacks.com and I love them.

I ordered 4 stands along with the DK13HLQ and can't be more happy.
