Hey guys, my comments are in Blue.

Yeah, you ****.
Thanks for that, I really got lucky on the $5/bag deal.
Fun find. Original owner had pride.

That's a new one on me too. I'll have to test it, my guess is it's hype.

Sure they did, I cleaned out greasy dirt from 3 of them. :p

1/2" drive, they're for sale, too! PM me.

how can you tell if it's a copy?

The sticker instead of a badge is the first giveaway.

The second is the handle is plastic and it's an "outie" where the handle attaches to the outside of the hinge points. That feature came out in the 70's IIRC.

The true 1950's heritage will have a metal handle and be an "innie".

Very nice!

Can't believe the canvas was $15 if the files were only .39. The files I see tend to start at a dollar. Honestly though, I'm not sure I trust any of your story. I mean after all, there are apparently block grinders and you didn't post those first.

Must be a torqueman imposter.

I know, right?!

I took some pictures when I got them home and after a quick dust-off, with intentions of an as-found flip.

When I went to edit/post the pics, they look so grungy I decided to give them a spritz with my favorite cleaner - Simple Green.

Tonight, fur sure; no really! :D

DocB: yep all I did was wipe down my little Craftsman heritage tool box with SG and took my tools out of a box just like the smallish crowntop you just bought. i like the one you just bought but when i filled it up i could barely carry it. i still need to tweak the ingredients of mine, but i use it almost daily.

is it night yet in Michigan? looking for those missing blocks of Dr. Block's. we don't mind dusty.

cheers

Model 397.19430, really! :D
Fi%20P1090952.jpg

No, really really, see it's right here.

Thanks PO for having the forethought to write it down.

Did you ever wonder what the large round knock-out on the back of the center band was for? Not the small one for the lamp, but the one to it's left.

The PO hard wired the Block with BX to an outlet above the bench.

Doc: your posts are always a joy to read.:bounce:

i was just wondering if that hole where you show the conduit coming out on the last block isn't that where you managed to put a fuse in Go Blue? I've seen a fuse in one or two blocks and not sure if you and others created that or if that was a factory item.

i'm still wondering about how many reproductions i might have bought if Craftsman made them. since i usually shop at 80+ year old clients garages and shops i guess i'm ok, but always good to read and learn here on this forum.

i forgot to say so, but i also liked your file wrap.

have a great day

Here you go, wider view including fuse I installed. That knock-out maybe a good spot for a fuse, also.

Doc: you might want to PM Vintage Nut because he seems to know a lot about files and i think there was a thread last year about them. i do remember that the little steel file brushes were not the best method and can't remember which was the best.

thanks for showing your fuse and was that stock or did you wire that in yourself?

Thanks drivesit, VN did reply in the Block thread. { http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4902907#post4902907 }

The fuse was fabed-in by me, but at the good recommendation from a OWWM/VM member.
;)
