Estimated Heater Install

I was just wondering if any of you folks that live around or in Indiana have an estimated cost on what a NG forced air heater cost to install. I am looking at the Beacon/Morris at menards (45k unit). I am waiting to hear a reply from the heating company here but haven't heard yet since it was the weekend. Figure they may not like me buying my own heater not through them. Main goal is to keep it around 50 when im not out there as I am going to have my model railroad out there and the track is steel. Bought a ventless but I am taking it back after reading the reviews on here and wanting to get a vented unit installed.

Garage specs: 22x20 2 car, just finished insulating the outside facing walls with R13. It is an attached garage. Attic has nothing yet, but will eventually do blown in. After looking over other topics for a few hours I found the 45k should be adequate.

The NG line runs up the right side of the wall behind that last piece of insulation shown in the picture. Also, I dont know if I could save some $$$ by having them just replace this duct that is already there. No idea what it is for but it just goes up to a flap on the roof. This is where I plan on putting the heater as it is the back wall and the heater would face up towards the garage door.

If you have minimal mechanical skills you can do it your self. I just installed the same heater from Menards. It the gas line is that close put a 90 degree elbo on it. A flex appliance hose on it. I rented a drywall lift to lift mine up as I no other help and for the $30.00 it was well worth it. Hardest part was the lift only lowers to about 5'. I put a piece of plywood on the lift. Strapped the heater down cause the lift does rock some and I did not want it to fall off. Here is a link showing a install of a NG heater. Good luck.

Many will mount the heater, run the electric and thermostat line. Find out what your codes allow. You may want to have a licensed installer run your vent and/or gas line as It will cover you insurance wise.

Costs will depend on the difficulty and length of your vent and gas line. Most installers will come out and give you an estimate.

I have a buddy that works for Nipsco that can do my gas line for free so that's no biggie. I just wanted to have someone mainly run the venting. Figured I can hang and wire the heater myself since I know that much. Just was curious to see what it will cost to vent. Only looking at probably needing about 10 foot of vent.

To run the venting from the unit and terminate out the roof Should be $300ish. I just quoted a customer on a very similar project.

Sure you can hack it together if you have some mechanical skills, but unless you are positive it is up to local codes (and you KNOW local codes), then I would hire out the venting and gas connections.

Also, I would not mount it yet unless you are absolutely positive that the venting and gas lines can be ran to that location and still be up to code.
