Just went to the local home improvement big box store to pick up a drilling hammer.

Looked through several Estwing drilling hammers. I noticed several on the rack with a fiberglass handle, every one of them proudly marked "Made in Taiwan"

I got the last US made version.

I don't know if made in taiwan Estwing has been around for a while or not, but it's the first time I've seen it.

Disappointing to say the least, but not a total surprise

Pretty sure all of the "blue gRip" ones are still made in the USA. I've never seen one that wasn't, and I was aware they had an import line as well. It always turns out like that. The best is made where it should be, and the rest... well let's just say it's made somewhere else.

I emailed them about this.

They have always had a line made in taiwan.. still make a huge percentage of their products in the USA.

I just bought the same hammer you listed above :) So now I have a Estwing framing hammer, ball peen and small sledge :)

I noticed that too, also at my Home Cheapo they had a basket full of Vauhn (sp) hammers all made in USA on clearance. So I had to go look at the hammers in the tool dept. Once there I still could see Vauhn hammers but heads were a touch different looking and felt odd. Well inspecting further I spied the made in China. Good ol' Home Cheapo wanting more profit gave Vauhn a option or get dropped.

All the ones with the blue cushion handle at my local home depot are US made. They do have some taiwan made hammers as well, and some taiwan and japanese made nail claws. They are stamped from where they are made. But they have been like that for years now.

I picked up some new Klein drivers, a lot of their accessories have been Taiwan for a while now, but the drivers have been Made in USA. The 11-in-1 is now Made in USA from foreign & global components, the stubby and nut drivers were both Made in Taiwan. Quality is indistinguishable, rubber seems slightly nicer on the Taiwan versions.

I bought a 24 oz ball peen, the 3lb drilling hammer above, and a 16oz claw, all US made at my home depot within the last month. As far as I know, most Estwing is still US made.
