This site has some serious tool guys here, and it got me to wondering. Does anybody have an "Emergency Tool Fund"? I know a bunch of you here have accounts with the truck brands, so putting a tool on credit is pretty easy, but how about the DIY, Weekend Warriors, Shade Tree Mechanics, all the other guys. Do yall have money stashed away to pick up that special tool to finish a job or a smoking deal at the flea market? I know since joining GJ, I keep a little stash to splurge in the Hot Deals section and just general tool talk in this forum makes me want stuff I don't need.

Plastic. And me, like most people here, have it. No "ETF" for me. Purely spur of the moment unless I'm planning to build something.

Now whether or not that's a good thing is yet to be determined.

I guess you could say that my change jar could be used for a ETF. Not only do I drop my change in it, I've been putting my scrap pile money in it too. Another thing I've tried to do to make it grow is on payday, put all my $1 bills left over from the previous week in the jar too.

I dont have an emergency tool fund, I just have an emergency fund for real emergencies. To me there is no such thing as a "tool emergency," if I want it and can afford it I buy, otherwise I dont. A few hundred bucks missing from my check this month bc I saw a deal will be saved next month, and I keep a very detailed spreadsheet showing where my $$$ is going so I know my accounts are always growing, and more often than not my entire tool budget isnt spent month-month.
