I have run across so much Chinese junk with counterfeit UL and other markings on them that I really don't trust the markings alone to mean a product is safe.
The worst one I saw was a power strip at I got at a garage sale. It had a UL mark on it but every outlet showed open ground. It had a 3 prong grounding plug molded onto a 2 conductor cord. No ground wire in it and no ground connectors in any of the 6 plugs in the strip.
Any Nationally Recognized Test Lab (NRTL) will test to the same standard and have ongoing factory inspections. You may see UL, ETL, CSA, TUV, MET, etc.
