I built a smoke machine and want to check for a large EVAP leak code on a 2008 Impala (probably gas cap leak). The cheapest I can find is the OTC CEA04 @ $39. Are the Evap Service port fittings a special size?

The only time I see a large evap leak on an Impala is the vent valve. You can tap into the system in other places you don't have to use the schrader port.

Are you sure you have an evap test port? Manufacturers did away with them so as not to have another possible leak source. We use adapters placed in series now.

Fyi the evap port is not the same as the gm fuel schrader valve, I have tried.

Does someone want to tell me why this little critter is $40? and is there a home made version that anyone has come up with?

Anyone out there ever come up with something for this?

From what I see the thread appears to be M12x1.25.

So I think this would work:
Metric Fitting M12 M12X1.25 Female X Barb 3/8” 10mm Air Fuel Gas Oil Boat EG

But it doesn't have the oring or a seal in the top of the fitting.

I would really like to find the fitting they are using with this guy as it pushes the schrader valve in when you screw it in.:

That's what it was on my Grand Prix and the part is so cheap and well-known to fail, in this case it's worth doing a parts-swap to see if it fixes the problem.

edit: To confirm it's the problem, you can just put 12 volts to it and listen for if the solenoid activates.

For anyone that wanted to know about this, it is in fact the same thread as a R134a hose. I used an old feed hose I got from a friend, tested the threads, and then cut the hose in half. I now have a nice test port adapter.

Take the core out, then find a piece of flexible hose that slips over the fitting. Our smoke machine has a metal cone on the end of the hose that seals to the flexible hose
