I know more than I every wanted to about my 60x100 metal building now that it is finished. I am looking at options for retrofitting eve extensions. I have a 20x100 shed roof on the back, so I am only looking at 2 or possible 3 sides. The side walls seem easy enough, just extend the z purlins 3feet. What is the best way to handle the eve on the front wall? I know it will involve on site fabrication, but not real sure where to start.

So you are wanting to add a soffit and fascia?

You are going to want to build a framework to support the added roof length, the vertical face piece called the fascia and then the underneath panel called the soffit.

Do your measuring of want you want it to look like and build a jig for welding up some triangles that have that shape.

Most often people match the original roof slope, but you can get creative here.

How many you will need depend on how far apart your current verticals are.
If your arches are far apart you may need to trim the top of your siding down so you can tack a horizontal support piece for the in between triangles. You want enough support so neither the roof or the soffit sags.

You will need to add at least a purloin at the outside edge, maybe one in the middle.

To get an idea of what you need, take a walk in town and look at the canvas
awnings on some of the stores.
Some are arched and some flat, but they all will have the kind of frame work I am trying to describe.

Take a look at my building thread link below and you can see how the red iron is setup for the side wall and end walls. There are a bunch of trim pieces that you will need for the end walls too, and you can see what the red iron looks like for the side wall. Of course your going to have to extend the roof sheeting. I may even have some drawings I can send you I will have to look and see what I have. I do know it will not be cheap to retrofit as it was not cheap to have them in the 1st place :( Mine are 3' are you going to go 3' on all of them?

I had been looking at your frame work pictures, it looks simple enough. Without getting "professional" help I figure 5-8K for the 3sides, at 3 ft. I built the building with a 20x100 shed roof so I know how much$$$ the stuff ends up being. Trim adds up real quick, red iron is the cheapest part.

I am think that I can remove the screws from the lower roof sgeets and insert the new eve sheet under. 4 foot sheets would give me 1ft of lap and 3 ft for the eve extension.

here is a quote to add them to a new building 60X100 on 3 sides your costs will be more as you have to go farther on the end walls to include your shed roof and of course the retrofit parts will cost more than the stock parts...

Roof purlin extensions, creating an overhang over my large door (gable end of the building) is something I could kick myself for not doing. Never gave it a moments thought at the time.

I have to close the large door (aircraft hangar door) when it starts to sprinkle, as it blows in easily. A overhang would have been easy, longer roof purlins and about four more roof sheets, and a little more side trim, but now it would be alot of work and the worry of roof leaks where the existing roof would have to have screws removed to slip in purlin stubs. Someday, possibly.

I would have done alot of things in a different way. No major changes, but now that my apartment is done I live there. I WILL BE doing the extensions, just not sure when.
