Okay, so last night I ordered some 8020 aluminum from MSC. I've been wanting to give it a try for the longest time, and they were offering free shipping.

This morning I ordered fasteners and alum sheet and what not from McMaster.

I then went and ordered specialty fasteners and special profiles from 8020's ebay store.

I will now order some socket cap fasteners from Amazon and Small Parts.

I started off ordering a few things since the price was right, and now that I started spending, I cannot stop!!

Has that ever happened to you? Where it started with one wrench or socket and ballooned into a whole new complete set?

Before you buy socketheads take a look at my website. If I have what you need it will be a fraction of the price you find on amazon.

I did take a look at your website but didn't see the sizes I needed. 1/4"-20 and #8-32 button head stainless steel 1/2" length.

Don't worry, I keep you in mind. =)

I haven't gone overboard on a purchase in a while, but some people might regard having all my metal powertool boxes, after they were damaged by water ingress, refinished in matching powdercoat with engraved identifiers on the top and sides as a little OTT. (Pics when I get them back)

No (no one is going to check right?).

You can confess, you're among friends :p

Free shipping minimum is dangerous for me.

I think that just might be the whole point of free shipping ;)

What are you building with the 8020 aluminum and socket head cap screws Stuey? :)
I'll let you know when I figure it out - haha!

I had intended on a small cabinet, but might go for a tool stand and small cabinet.

I was going to buy a cordless circular saw and set of parallel clamps to help build some plywood cabinets, but that plan is now forfeit since I overspent on the 8020 supplies.

Whatever the final project will be, it will either hold a lot of tools or a lot of kitchen supplies. In other words, it'll either be a portable tool table or a kitchen island cart.

btw, I ordered Gearwrench and Proto screwdrivers for review. ;)

Whenever I walk into Wal-Mart, Costco, or Lowe's. I can go in there for a $5 item and still walk out with $100 of ****. It's all stuff I need though, but just didn't realize I needed until I saw it on the shelf. :bounce:

YIKES!

Wave two just hit me.

After a lot of price-comparison and product selection, I placed orders from four more places. I think I have everything I need now.

I don't know who will hate me more - the UPS guy or my wife!

I tend to go overboard sometimes. I'm about 4 weeks away from outfitting a new box for a business I'm launching. Outside of this, I have a tendency to collect ratchets.

So what did you end up building with the extrusion?
It's a looooooooong story. Let's just say that I now have to cut the 8' extrusions down to 4' to put them in storage for my next brilliant idea.

While I was finalizing my designs, my place got too cluttered to cut the extrusions down to size. I won't have enough free space to maneuver them around until I move next month.

I have a small cold-cutting saw for clean right angles, but will use a cordless band saw I'm testing for the rough cuts.

I go overboard all the time. And I have big eyes. Good news is that my plans usually come to fruition.... eventually.

I know how that can be. I'm trying to find a U.S. manufacturer that can produce a certain idea of mine. On top of this, I'm tooling up to expand a business I've had on the side for a few years (geology/forrestry). That side project happened to spur a tool idea one day at about 3AM - which I'm currently working on with a fellow GJ member. I wish I could find a small drop forge, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

last week I had some extra cash so I figured I would pick up a nice new ratchet or two (nice in comparison to my craftsman), and ended up with 7 new ratchets at the end of the week

All the time. That's how I ended up with so much stuff for sale.. I buy it, thinking I'm getting something I need.. and I don't need it at all.

Especially Coach purses when they're on sale. I just can't stop buying them.

^Kidding.

I use 8020 and Faztek a lot in my shop. They're interchangeable within a series....like 1530 for instance. For cutting all I've ever use is my 12" CMS With a Freud non ferrous blade and have cut tons of it. It cuts through it like budda.

If you buy joining plate stock precut at speedymetals.com and drill it yourself...and buy the socket head cap screws at Victornet....you'll save a fortune. (8020 5/8"-16 = 37 cents each vs victornet at 8 cents each). Adds up as you use tons of them. They do have you by the short hairs on T-nuts however.

You may already know all that.

I ordered quite a few 1"x1", 2"x2" and other sizes of angled aluminum as well.

Don't know what's going to happen now - my drill press and heavier tools are going into storage for ~1-year.

Part of the delay is that I was busy making cutting and drilling jigs to ensure proper hole placement. I was looking to save $$, but created a whole lot of extra work for myself. Extra work led to more delays, and in the long run, a LOT of wasted money.

I have plenty of T-nuts, sourced my own cap screws though. Couple of the specialty fasteners, and of course I then went out and bought the silver and deming and extensinve facing bits to drill placement for them myself.
