Only problem I see with it is that the empty tunnels in the handles are too small for 1/4" drive sockets. Which the tool would use. :headscrat

But I love the compactness and comfy shape of the handle. Would make a nice stubby driver.

The holes probably held hex screwdriver bits. It probably came with a 1/4" drive socket to hex adapter so that it could be used with screwdriver bits or regular sockets.

Mine, which looks exactly like yours, has "Deco 44B8809" molded into the small part of the handle.

Actual color is amber like yours. Not the clear yellow my fluorescent desk lamp made it look like in the photo.

Mopar,

It is a 9/32" drive (i.e. not 1/4") Deco brand short spinner handle. I have two of these.

I found an ad for this tool in a 1950's Popular Mechanics magazine. Because it's a 9/32" drive, I suspect the likely date range is 1940's - 1950's, give or take.

Most major tool companies dropped the 9/32" drive size around WWII with the introduction of the newer 1/4" drive size.

Hope this helps.

Mopar,

Deco made them in both sizes. The one I posted a photo of (and the part number) is a 1/4" drive.

I also have the 9/32" size, not pictured.

I too have one of those in 9/32 drive. I think the "deco" on mine is very lightly cast and inconspicuous. I've never seen any other members of the Deco family, and I do spend a lot of time grubbing around in old tools.
Since it has no provenance and no cohort, mine will be assigned to duty with one of my Plomb or Snap-on 9/32 groups...it seems to be a quality tool and is also a good looking period piece.
