I bought a used 25-ton OTC hydraulic press and someone refitted it with this sort of odd twin piston pump. I can't get it to bleed and it just doesn't function very well. Originally, the press came with a lever action two speed pump which looks like a porta-power pump. I've burped and bled this thing every way I can think of, including opening the release valve and cycling the pump as usual with this sort of thing with no luck. Does anyone have an idea of what this is or who makes it? It's made in USA but has no other markings.

Its a pump from a Carolina hydraulic press. We have a 50-ton model that has the same pump as yours. You shouldn't have to bleed it. Just close the valve and use the high speed pump first and it self bleeds. The high speed piston is the one on the left, the low speed/high pressure pump is slow.

Carolina Industrial Equipment was a different company, used traveling salesman to sell their stuff. Presses and horizontal bandsaws mainly. Not sure if they still do that

Wow, thanks for the response! That was quick. I'm not sure what's going on with this one but when you cycle the high speed side, it's like it's just pulling air with the down stroke and you have to wait to pump fluid. I can't get it to operate correctly for some reason.

Check the top of the tank for a vent fitting or small valve that must be open to prevent an air lock. My 40 ton Arcan press has a very similar pump. Works great.

We had the same press at my last job. We replaced the pump once. But it was probably 25 years old. It's a decent piece of equipment that we used and abused pretty severely! The reservoir vent is my guess. Otherwise, carefully disassemble and look at the check valves. Dirt or broken spring possibly!
