Theres been a few threads on favorite knives and it looks like I need to buy a few more!!
Ive got a leatherman wave which is my work based carry and then a beretta and a Smith and wesson homeland security (which for ironic comedy is chinese!!) which I like when camping etc.
My issue is with belt clips, now obviously they are helpful but they feel so uncomfortable in the hand.
Do you guys put up with the clip, remove the clip and keep it in your pocket or keep it in carry sheath?
I'm keen on a leatherman type sheath but are there any standard brands or recommendations??

I think it's a cultural thing, or maybe a function of the climate!

For me, the only place for a pocket knife is in your pocket! Clips just annoy me, so I remove them if I can. Most of my knives don't have 'em anyway!

Second choice would be a decent secure belt pouch such as the Bucks come in. Trouble is, you probably want a decent knife, and maybe a smaller one such as an SAK as well. Then you've got your keys, phone, wallet, sunglasses, notebook... etc! Before you know it you end up with a utility belt like Batman!

Glad I live where I can wear a jacket 9 months out of 12!

Kershaw 1620 knives have been my favorites and I like the clip to keep it where it belongs - hooked right on the edge of a pocket with the knife inside / clip to the outside. I prefer this because I like a knife that's just big enough to cut stuff without being bulky and the clip keeps it easy to reach. I don't like stuff down in my pockets while I work - clipped to the pocket top edge is less prone to discomfort.

Leatherman type sheath? Buck 110
Pocket clip or carry? one of the Benchmade axis locks Mini Griptillian, etc
Personally, If I'm going to carry it on my belt, I prefer a small fixed blade. In some parts of the country walking into the bank or post office with a sheathed fixed blade is no big deal and doesn't even get a glance.

I have carried a USA made Gerber folder (EZ-Out) for about 10 years. I believe it is discontinued though. It's a half serrated blade similar to the model 600. It has a 2 3/4" blade and Zytel handle. It holds an edge for a long time.

I bought a Gerber paraframe on a Black Friday deal and it's a great knife too, however I still like my half serrated model for Everyday carry.

I have and love the Buck Vantage. I daily carry what they call the "small". I find it to be the perfect size for an all purpose knife. It does have a deep carry clip which is a must for me. It's light, retains an edge, and I never even feel it clipped to my pocket. I find the clip to even be very comfortable when I am using the knife. It is reversible as well. You can move it to the other side of the handle depending on what feels best to you.

IMO, best knife for the money.

I only carry Case knives; I carry Case because they're made in the town my father was from (Bradford, PA). I've carried a Russlock for the last 7 or so years and love it.

I don't carry a knife all the time. When in the garage or at work all I use is a retractable sheet rock knife. When I did carpenter work I used a fixed blade knife in my apron so when making a hard cut it wouldn't retract on me.

In school I carried a Barstow pocket knife for whittling. (I never ended up with anything cool, just more toothpicks)

When I was working in theater, I always carried a Gerber sidelock. It was easy to open and close one-handed.

When I was a shipper, I carried a Sheffield folding box cutter. Once again it opened one-handed and used common razor blades that were easy to change out.

Now that I'm at home all day, I just have one of those cheap HF key knives on the key chain in my pocket. It's small and is good for opening the mail.

A knife is a tool, like any other in your toolbox. You use the one that fits the job.

I love my sodbuster jr. I carry it in my pocket, it isnt real big, and I can keep a razer sharp blade on it. I have a few knives, being in the army I have a lot of tactical knives and multi tools. Every morning though, the case sod buster goes in my pocket before I leave for work.

My cheap, not afraid to beat on it carry is a CRKT M16. The tanto design will hold up to piercing cans. The flipper allows it to be fast without spring assist. At the office it is usually a Sog Twitch II, which is a little more "friendly" looking, but lightening fast. A spyderco para military, a few benchmades and a few customs get alternated occasionally, but not get the torture the M16 does, short of a fixed blade.
I'm not a huge fan of pocket clips, as I don't like to advertise what I have. :ninja:

I have 2, one stainless and one black, both have held up excellently and are very comfortable for a back pocket or front pocket carry. The thinner profile makes the length very manageable and the curved blade is excellent for cutting cord or rope.

They also come with a great factory edge.

I "rotate" my EDC knife quite often... but more and more lately I find myself carrying Benchmades. Something about them is just right... probably the AXIS locks.
My favorite benchmade is probably my orange handled EMT knife or my McHenry 710 in M2.
My favorite non-benchmade is my KaBar "Phat Bob" - with micarta grips.
I also have a few I've never EDC'ed... just too nice. My Chris Reeve titanium handled Sebenza comes to mind.

Spyderco Delica full flat grind. Large enough to be useful, but it's small enough not to be considered a weapon (important for the workplace). The clip is still on it, but I just pocket the thing.

I carry a knife everyday, but it's not the same knife. It all depends on my perceived expectations of the day.

Regarding clips. I only have 1 knife with a clip. I also don't like knives with clips as it is uncomfortable to hold for extended use. But if there's any time you expect having 1 hand doing something else and the other hand to access the knife, a clip with one handed opening is nice. For me, those situations are very infrequent.

Buck 286, cheap, durable, comfortable pocket clip. This is for work. Cutting open boxes, zip ties........etc. For camping carry, Helle GT. Beautiful, durable, great for general outdoor use. I do like many of the buck knifes for beaters. They hold a good edge for the price. I find I use them more than my Helle stuff, kind od a shame since Helle is made to be used. I just dont want to mess one up, they are so pretty, and so expensive!

Yes!

I carry my Sodbuster Jr. everywhere. It's small enough and understated enough that it doesn't raise eyebrows when you need to use it in a public place.

If I know I'll need to do some heavy work with a knife, I'll grab a Benchmade to go in another pocket.

I keep a Leatherman Wave in my pack that goes pretty much everywhere with me.

Spyderco is 10 minutes from our Denver location. Probably one of the best companies we work with, they truly care about their product and customers. That being said I carry a SOG full auto. Unfortunettly it is getting repaired but SOG has been great as far as the warranty process goes so far.

Hard to beat Spyderco, they run great monthly specials and keep their vendors in the loop when it comes to Sprint Run allocations and inventory.

Edit: Spyderco also just broke ground on a new wharehouse expansion, big things to come from them next year!
