Hey everyone I am going rounds on a used hoist that will be for sale soon if it would be a good buy or not to put up in my 30x40 that is being built real soon.

I work for a local municipality and we currently have a 9000lb system 1 that is going to be replaced real soon for a new 16k lift and I asked the Mohawk dealer what he would want for the used lift he gave me the price of $2k for the used lift which would be no big deal but this hoist does have some issues

It was bought in 92 and installed in the old shop in 95 they moved the hoist into the current shop in 2008 they installed 1 new cylinder because it was leaking and 1 new swing arm being that it was bent.
currently I brought it to the attn of the boss that it did not want to lift our 3/4 ton trucks because it wanted to bypass (would lift a foot off the ground then go into bypass)

We called the local sales rep out and he adjusted the set screw on the pump and it has seemed to lift trucks up now but it still has bent hoist arms

when the hoist is set there is every bit of 8" droop/sag from the carriage to the end of the arm. so I would be looking at replacing 4 arms at roughly 250-300 ea plus pins and was said chains have some stretch (minor)

So what are everyones thoughts is a used Mohawk work $2000 plus the possibility of replacing 4 of the lift arms? or is one better to buy a $10k from greg smith or bendpak ? I just dont want to let a good deal go by the wayside. Thanks. Low50s

Buy new...as nice as the Mohawk lifts are, this one has obviously seen a lifetime of use/abuse and you'd just be inheriting a problem. I'd rather work on the vehicle on the lift than the lift itself and I'd rather my lift last 20+ years, not 5 years of endless repairs on an old lift.

I own a used Mohawk but it wasn't abused. Love mine, but I'd pass on that. Maybe dealer has another lighter used lift?

He does not he said he rarely gets used ones because they last so long he has been in the business for 25-30 years he said and told me he's only ever had a handful of trade ins

I may end up calling Mohawk tomorrow just to see what all new arms would cost but yes I think this is going to be something I may have to pass on I know they are built like tanks but this one may have met its match

Called Mohawk they want $302 ea for the swing arm $141 for slider $35 per swing arm pin and 13.60 per nut for pin I know it has two bent arms and the carriage has a good size gap between swing arm and carriage plates so this has been heavily used so it is pretty worn out and won't be worth it for the 2k it would have to be highly discounted for me to bite on this thanks everyone

Is that the best price from the dealer? Tell him what you will have in parts to make this work for you. Just a thought.

How did they bend the arms?:willy_nil

They tried to lift the *** end of a dump truck up to change a flat only set the one arm and lifted then they did it on a different one it has had a hard life like I said I will end up passing would only consider it if it was cheap enough like $500 otherwise GSES 10k it is
