I'm building 2 garages, one right next to my house to park in (almost completed, haven't gotten around to doing a build thread yet), and another in the back corner of my lot for a workshop. This is the latter. It's going to be a quasi pole barn, similar to the first build. It's on permacolumns, but full framed walls between them, so I can side it with Hardi Plank (which will eventually match the house). The workshop will have radiant heating and eventually some air conditioning. It will be 50x35, with a 16' door on the short end. I'm hoping to get the floor in and everything enclosed before winter, we'll see how it turns out. Right now I've got a level lot, permacolumns delivered, and trusses delivered. I'm doing electrical, siding, finish work, etc. Contractors are doing framing, roofing, and pouring the slab. Should be starting uprights next week hopefully. I'm insulating the floor with 2.5" 40psi Rigid foam (already purchased, reclaimed) on top of a 15mil vapor barrier, and laying 1/2" pex at 12" spacing. I was planning a 2 post lift and a 4 post lift, and i'm leaning towards leaving the foam under the entire floor, and pouring 6" 4000psi concrete. The contractor wants to do wire mesh, and #4 rebar on the perimeter. I was planning to leave some 4x4 pads for the 2 post, and didn't plan to do anything different for the 4 post. I'd welcome some feedback from those more knowledgeable than I. I'm having difficulty finding if I should look at additional rebar under the pads (I feel like I should).
My real concern is the placement of the 2 post lift. I had originally planned to put it right in front of the door, and reading thread after thread makes me hesitant to do that, it seems that everyone universally hates having their lift blocking things. I saw suggestions for putting it in the back corner, but I'm expecting long term project storage in here, and moving things around to use the lift sounds like a huge pain in the ***. So now i'm thinking If i put it at an angle off to the right that might be the ticket, but i'm a little lost as far as how far to space it out from the wall and how much angle is too much. I'm planning an asymetric 2 post (looking at the bendpak XPR-10AS-168 https://www.bestbuyautoequipment.co...all-2-post-car-lift-p/bendpakxpr-10as-168.htm , not 100% decided, but thats where i'm leaning). I didn't see any other builds where anyone had done that, but i'm sure i've seen it before in service bays. Unfortunately my building is smaller than your average dealership service area =(

I called bendpak and had a similar experience to others here, where they didn't answer any questions. They referred me to a local installer, who pointed me to a Forward lift. I think i'm changing the design and going to a 10ft wide door and a 12ft wide door, instead of the 16ft door. I'll put the lift in front of the 10ft door, but still have access to the rest of the garage. Looks like I need some more columns.

Got some done yesterday, changed the whole layout. I'll have a door on the left the lift will be directly in front of, and a main entry 12x12 in the middle so the lift doesn't block entry to the shop0919201203_HDR.jpg0919201044_HDR.jpg

Thought I updated, but here is the floor poured, went in about 2 weeks ago. We had some serious issues with stuck cement trucks, everything around the building was reasonably graded when we started lol.

Congratulations for actually using spacer chairs to raise the reinforcement up into the middle of the concrete, 99.9 % of the pics of slabs ready to place on here have it sitting on the bottom where it will stay and do nothing.

Looks awesome man! Hoping to catch up to you shortly here. Lumber was dropped today, hopefully framing starts tomorrow.

Roof is on. Waiting for garage doors, they're probably 6 weeks out. Hoping to have the soffits and entry doors done shortly, finish taping, and that's probably it until spring1212200947_HDR.jpeg

Thanks guys! Yeah, he graded it pretty nice. There are some LARGE piles of dirt out of frame that I'll need to spend a solid day or two moving with my skid. I was kind of hoping they would be, you know, moved, but here we are. It'll get done, but probably not until spring at the rate I'm going here.

Not a whole lot of progress, properly mounted entry doors and windows, taped the seams. Found some other issues they didn't frame out properly on the gables, and the bracing isn't done properly either, do I'll chip away at that in my "free time" 0109211256_HDR.jpg

Been awhile, been busy with other things. The doors didn't come until April, and had a damaged panel. I finished truss bracing, hurricane ties, and put in the 12x12 (mostly). Holy cow, those springs are 4' wide each! Spread out most of the topsoil. The little stuff is time consuming.
