I just picked this up the other day. Wow, what a pleasure to use. I've got a project using 2x2, 3x3 & 4x4x1/4". This thing is so much better than my abrasive cut-off saw, especially in the hot dry conditions we have here this time of the year. Yes, it makes a mess, but when you are cutting steel, what doesn't?

Horizonal band saws are quiet and make very little mess. You get some fine chips at the cut area, but a magnet will quickly pick them up.

They aren't **** or exciting, but quietly get the job done without fuss or drama.

pstemari you forgot to mention slowly....

Congrats Jackfre, I personally recommend that saw in the Dry Cut category! Its got a nice beefy base, good vise, and everything else is good enough at a price point 25-30% cheaper then others.

I have modified (added to) a chip guard for my saw, actually used a old piece of heavy leather and riveted to the back. Probably catches 90% of the chips now.

I have an old Delta 4x6 HBS that has served me well. A good part of the reason I got the Evo is that I can better move the saw to the work as opposed to having to deal with the 20' sticks of iron going to the HBS. It is a room and lay-out issue. Also, I have had difficulty cutting reliable 45* cuts with my HBS. I'm doing square cuts only so far but will be doing a lot of 45's upcoming. I expect they will be much easier and more accurate.

A chip catcher you say? Details, please?

I basically added a leather hood over the back area where the blade pivots. They have a small (3"x3") box that catches a decent amount, but this one comes around the sides and covers all the gaps. Maybe I will post a few pics when I get the chance.
